Translators shouldn't be able to mute/ban players
Title, translators are qualified to help translating things not to handle punishments themselves.

Not a good idea its like if I said "Hosts should not mute/ban since they're just there to host a game."

what a terrible comparison, hosts are there to manage their games which also involves punishing players, while translators don't do any ingame work

They can't even ban players, they only have mute perms and they are staff so why not give it to them.

Then shouldn't Tournament Helpers also be able to?

I've seen so many translators get demoted because they abused their rank and they are t r a n s l a t o r s after all, so they shouldn't be able to mute people. I made this thread for a reason, not calling any names to prevent flame, the person I'm refering to knows it's him.

Eh, I don't really mind, as long as /mute isn't abused I don't see too much of a problem. I can see where you're coming from though.

I see where you're coming from, translators are there to help staff members translate, simple. But the reason they are able to mute in the first place (I THINK) is so they don't have to report people swearing in their own language to staff members, it helps us out cause we can deal with something else and the rulebreaker gets "taken care of" faster.

If a translator mutes when he or she is not supposed to, simply submit a staff abuse report.

I suggested giving perms to translators like a billion times when I was staff I dont know why badlion had a change of heart all of a sudden

All they can do is mute. They can't ban. Regardless, translators don't just go randomly muting people, they need to mute along the sane standards as every other staff member. And even if they make a mistake, and it's false, you can always appeal/make a staff abuse report (if the mute is shorter than a week).

Getting rid of their perms to do this would only allow even more people to get away with being toxic.

This is not the point at all, they are TRANSLATORS, their job is to TRANSLATE, they don't go trough the same training like normal staff and should have no say when it comes to punishments. The funny thing is that Archy / Gberry have said no to muting for translators a thousand times but Revilos had the great idea to make this stupid decision to let everyone know he's an admin and can change things!!!
Another funny thing is that despite that he still has the balls to complain to people when they dont' translate enough yet he's a big reason for that happening since he let them have mute perms (yes, they are not required to mute but the truth is that they simply take is as an "easy" staff position since they can punish whenever they want and they do a shit job at it most of the times if you look at the abuse reports)

Oh, let's also not forget the many translators that managed to get demoted without any perms whatsoever, how is giving them more perms a good idea?

Please, please stop talking as if you know exactly what's going on lol.

They had the perms for multiple months now and there wasn't a single translator that abused the perms yet (as far as I know from forum reports).

If I get evidence that the perms are getting abused I have no problem with changing stuff.

Most staff can only understand english. Because translators can mute a player won't get away with swearing /saying sth muteable in chat in his language.

Also to be honest you don't really need any special training for muting as long as you know the rules exactly.

Cornfake and Zeynah to name two, giving them even more perms is blatantly counterproductive and stupid and if you think they don't need any special training for muting ask Tigrah why he muted me for the wrong reason (which was corrected by an Arena mod later on)

You forget the part where most translators aren't actually that fluent, nor they actually read the rules properly (since you know, their job is TRANSLATING what they are asked to translate, not know the rules as much as they can)

https://www.badlion.net/appeal/thread/322132 this is just an example, and I'm sure there are many that went unseen, especially considering how most of the times the typical foreign person doesn't know how to actually make a staff abuse report.

"Most staff can only understand english" Yeah, that's why that specific staff channel on discord was created and that's why there is a thread Nicosby made for the common examples of breaking chat rules in every single language

"If I get evidence that the perms are getting abused I have no problem with changing stuff."
The question is… why was this added in the first place?

As a UHC host I’m managing 250+ players, and I have no idea when someone is being disrespectful in chat in another language. If a translator isn’t there I have to take a photo and then request a translation, which can take anywhere from 10 minutes to several hours. While i’m waiting the chat is going crazy demanding a mute a mute and calling me a bad host for not muting, even though I have no idea what they said. If a translator is in the game they can handle it immediately and avoid the chaos of it all.

Translators being able to mute is beneficial and helpful, to both the players and the staff. If one or two are having issues, talk to DerRevilos or make a staff abuse report. If you report it they can be corrected and make sure it doesn’t happen again. There’s no need to revoke every translators perms to mute when the majority do their job well.

I'll look into the case of the false mutes which haven't been reported to me yet.

As long as these were the only cases of a false mute I won't be changing anything as humans do mistakes.

I'm not going to take away helping hands just because of their title.
