Some 1v1 tournaments would be nice...
It'd be nice to actually have some 1v1 tournaments instead of everything having to be team based. I saw there was an SG tournament coming up and was pretty hyped. But no. 5v5s. Cool. Another dud for all the players who play solo.

Surely they can alternate between team-based and solo or do one of each for every tournament.

Maybe there isn't that big a demand for 1v1 but it would be easier to arrange for the players.

I'm actually going to go against the trend here and disagree. The goal of Badlion has been (and will continue to be) making Minecraft more and more competitive. The 1v1 scene in any game is rarely competitive. The reasoning behind this is the skill ceiling is so much lower. Minecraft as a 1v1 game has a decent skill ceiling, but isn't nearly as interesting to watch. The extent of strategy is when to gap, when to head, lava, rod, etc. From an onlookers perspective, it's not hugely interesting. Sure, there is the aspect of WTapping and other micro-strategies or mechanical things players do but it's harder to appreciate those from a third person view as an onlooker.

Team based gives a much broader and more interesting approach. Even if every member on the other team is better than every member on your team, if they don't have solid strategy and you do, you can pull through and win. It's a lot more interesting to watch because there are bigger more notable strategies. On top of all the micro strategy and mechanics the players are using, there could also be some form of rotation or trying to take 2v1s and then have someone just stall. This not only makes it more interesting for viewers but also makes it have a higher skill ceiling.

In contrast, I think there's a different way to deal with this issue. The issue you're addressing is that casual play is all 1v1, and competitive play is all team based (5v5 etc.). Another way of tackling this same issue is to add some casual 5v5 or 2v2 or really any team based play. In my opinion, it would be best to do this through PUG (or pick up games) because it's likely you don't always have a team with you or promoting scrims between clans.

Now, while I do agree there should be some 1v1 prize pool tourneys, there are also some other issues. First of all, they take significantly longer and require more staff. For a 5v5 tourney, only good teams or organized teams will sign up because it needs 5 players at the same time. For 1v1, a lot more will sign up. That means more matches need to be played and previous tournaments have taken up to 7 hours (iirc). This also means that they often have to do bo1 games just to get through all the games and with 1v1s being much more volatile and where 1 mistake can cost you the match, it's just difficult to make a system that's fair and will allow the top players to make it to the top of the tournament.

Tl;dr: I think PUG games should be a priority and 1v1 tournaments are hard.
