Hey! I recently got CM so I figure I'd introduce myself, and answer any questions you have about me as a player or person. To start, basic info:
I'm 21 years old
6'3 (190cm)
From around Maryland
On Badlion:
I was one of the first batch of Tournament Advisors, more than 3 years ago. I took charge of that group for a while, and then stepped down for a period to help out on an old server I had played on during it's final days. I was also a mod and a UHC host in that time. I came back about a year ago now, before the Diamond Series, focusing mostly on Map work, but also doing some more Tournament Advisor stuff. As a CM I hope to continue to work with the competitive community and find more effective ways to implement the suggestions of players.
As a person:
I'm a Junior in College, majoring in Mathematics, Philosophy, Classics, and Psychology. I'm writing a thesis next year on the Iliad/Ancient metrical theory, as well as a Cultural Psych thesis right now on the effects of Pornography on the general audience, especially in how it teaches us about consent, sexual orientation, gender roles, and race. I also do research in chronicles, poetry, and writings concerning perfume in Greek, Latin, and Linear B. In addition to those languages, I speak German and Italian badly.
For less academic things, I love to cook, I bartend, and I sing a capella. That should be enough for a start. Ask me anything!

Are you going to be and stay active in the Badlion community>Posted on 12 February 2018 - 09:15 PM
Would you sing a capella for my birthday?Que tan buen español crees tener?
I know this questions are kinda disappointing but I would like to know what is your opinion on me and Comp MC project I am doing

Is there a single thing within psychology you like to study the most? My personal favorite would be dreams. What is a major controversial philosophy topic you enjoy talking about or find difficult to give a solider answer for?
If you could give one tip to people starting college next fall, what would it be?
What drives you do to do all that you do? In terms of badlion and college do you have an end goal or a motivation piece that helps you per daily?
Is there anything from badlion you can use to apply for real life situations?
Does your real life help you here on badlion?
What do you feel dreams do for people? are the ultimately good or can they bring about bad to a person's mind?
When you look at society in general, what are three major problems you notice occurring more often than others?
Can you summarize your statement on the thesis of pornography, i'd like to hear what you wrote for that if you do not mind.
Do you have a preferred style of poetry? also do you like to write it yourself?
Are there any little patterns you see in humans when walking the streets casually? Do you see something done more than something else?
Do you at all watch people sometimes out of interest and see what they do per situation?
Opinion?
I have many more but i'll pm you.

Kinda depends what you define as active. I intend to work on issues/talk to players actively, but I don't know how active I'll play in game just given my time constraints.

Yes.
I can understand a good amount of Spanish from Italian/Latin.
I think it's a good project, because I think that talents of various types just crop up out of nowhere, and without centrality, those go out. If they are brought together they become something far greater than the sum of it's parts. I think you are working towards making that easier, and I respect that.

Feminist theory/prejudice theory/cultural psych, as well as psychometrics (the study of measures) have been my favorite topics.
I find the idea of "training" in discussions of utopia to be especially hard/baffling. For example, im Plato's Republic, it seems that the Just City is needed to raise a Philosopher King, and yet a Philosopher King is the only one who could in the first place create that system which created him.
Make friends immediately. Not that many of the people you meet will be those that stick with you, but by meeting people, you will start to find those guys. Be bold: ask someone on a date, take on a class you think is cool even if it was unexpected, sign up for a club that looks fun. Spend the start of your semester not reinventing yourself, but just putting yourself out there. Once you've settled into your thing and your group, double down and hit it out of the park–whatever it is you winded up doing.
I don't know what drives me. There's smaller answers for certain things, but I just keep going. I want to figure out why!
Idk I don't see MC and IRL as too seperate–people are people to me.
See above.
Depends on the dream! A dream that results in something bad for someone, when completed, will have that affect. I think you have to be careful what you are wishing for.
I think that being kind is a performative skill now–that people are way more concerned with appearing caring than they are caring for others. I think that language is falling behind a lot of our discussions, and we need more specified and understood vocab surrounding systems of prejudice. I think drinking culture, especially on college campuses, is very dangerous, not just in terms of alcohol poisoning, but also in terms of sexual assault.
Basically, since sex ed isn't taught well in schools, pornography is our defacto teacher of consent, kinks, and sexuality, and even though we know that it is grossly exaggerated, it still affects us greatly and in a detrimental way. My ultimate goal is to draft some legal changes I think can be enforced on the industry.
I mostly like structured poetry, but love many free verse pieces like the Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock, Alan Ginsberg's America, and others. English Romantic poetry (Keats, Coleridge, Wordsworth, Byron, Shelley) are high up there, along with Frost, Hughes, Dylan Thomas, and others later on. In terms of verses, I love hymn verse, pantoums, and villanelles especially. I tend to write various more structured forms, but occasionally dabble in free verse.
As for patterns, white girls has this tendency to pull their sweatshirts over their hands and stand weirdly when they want to look cute (sorry not sorry). People flirting often steal things from each other. People who walk fast tend to walk ridiculously fast to overtake people who walk slower than them.
I people watch a lot.
You seem active on the Player Council which is nice, I don't think I know you too well otherwise.

I think that tournaments are progressing well in many ways, but are currently most held back in that they lack good streaming.
I've enjoyed the people on the tournament team, past and present. I think there needs to be more of us all running matches, but we'll get there.
I like Minecraft a lot. To be brief (because the last time I talked about this, I fucked up and wrote a essay) being able to affect terrain gives rise to a type of strategy that can exist in no other game. You can strategize in anything, and you can counter-strat by viewing the field you are playing on, identifying the strategy at hand, and finding another way about things that isn't neccesary the best over all, but is the best in your circumstance. But in Minecraft you can change the playing field–that means you can change the game you are playing. A counter strategy is one that is circumstantially stronger than that which it is up against–in Minecraft, by virtue of this ability to terraform, you can do something different, something I'd call a reversal. You're not picking a strategy that goes up well against what you face, you're changing the game so that once effective strategy of your enemy is ineffective. With these three together–strategy, counter, and reversal–there is a depth to gamemodes that we can explore here not present in any other games.
Badlion has done an incredible job getting to where it is in terms of developing an anti-cheat and making the connections it has. These are necessary prerequisites for bigger and better things, so I am happy there are already in place.
The staff team is super stratified, which is good and bad to me. On the one hand, it is super efficient, on the other, I feel like I have no way to affect things some of the time, or to even know what is going on, and that can be frustrating.
I don't know you too well, but I've liked what I've seen. You'll probably find from this thread, I don't really have opinions of people before I interact with them a lot.

I was trying to make a point about historiography and ontological perspectives of narrative and used the example of "What if I threw my phone across the room right now." My point would be that everyone would see it happen, and we would have no issues of "did it really occur? can we be certain? what about the conflicting reports?" Yet one of the people there would say I threw it to prove a point, one would say it was because I was insane, and another might suggest that I wanted to break my phone to get a new one. The narrativization of the event is where most of the history diverged. I thought it would be a good distinction to make, but I never got to make it, because one of my professors (we have 2 for these types of classes, it's weird) immediately said "do it" when I brought up the hypothetical, and I smashed my phone into the blackboard. So yeah, that.
I can dislocate my shoulders and put my fist in my mouth. I have an incredibly dulled sense of physical pain (but hate piercing wounds of any kind). My inner ear is fucked up, so I can't feel dizziness (seriously, I don't understand the concept of it.)
None really, I quite like my body parts.

I don't know for goals, they change based on what's needed, just basically to drive this to an esport.
Yes.
There's not one thing I'd change, and I'd prefer to just change them as they come up rather than think about them.
Again, don't know you too well, haven't talked to you much in that Discord yet. You seem nice.

I found out through a friend on another server, OCN.
A lot of them! I'd like to live abroad once I graduate college, and preferably travel the world and learn languages.
Italian and German badly. I mainly study ancient languages (Latin, Greek, and more recently, Linear B).
Not many at all, excepting Smash and other standard fare.
I hate a lot of things pretty strongly. Like I hate it when people like ranks as rewards, even when it inspires them to do good work. It bugs me. There's a long list, too long for one forum thread.
Some manner of world peace type wish. Boring, I know.
