Adding FFA SG back / Reverting it to 2.0 system
Last edited on 22 February 2018 - 06:40 PM by Hakodate
My suggestion is basically to separate Team and FFA SG. I've seen a thread about it some time ago, but I still wanted to give my feedback and a suggestion explaining why is it better be reverted back. Here are a few arguments why it should be reverted back to the the old system:
1. It would be a lot more fair for everyone.
As Badlion calls itself a competitive Minecraft PvP network, you can obviously tell that playing against a team when you are solo is nowhere near fair. I personally am an active player of SG on Badlion (and constantly am on the leaderboards), and I always notice a lot of Turkish and other people playing in team. I am always playing solo and it sometimes might be hard to escape 3 different teams that are chasing me just because I am the only solo player in the game, and when I happen to make it to deathmatch some people would always crossteam against me or any other player. If you want to create a truly competitive experience, no one should have any advantage over others, in our case teaming with other players to make it easier for someone to win the game.
2. It would be a lot more fun to play against players that are equal in everything.
It sometimes can be very frustrating to lose some ELO just because you often get teamed on in deathmatch or any other periods of the game just because you are a leaderboards player or you killed certain people in previous games. Back in Season 4 in SG I really enjoyed playing SG because everything was fair for everybody. There have still been some teams, but it was bannable and I reported it to some staff online quite often. Also I've read some threads of NA SG players complaining about someone separating in 10 different teams of 2 and playing like that when they are in Discord together, and if their opponents die they would just crossteam with someone else. This is really unfair for everybody to technically have 20 different teammates in the same game.
My counter-arguments to some responses in the past thread:
1. "It would separate the community".
I can still see what these people were coming from, but here's my counter-argument to that: if people want to play in team, they can still do it in the team mode and it shouldn't be a problem at all. If someone like me wants to play it competitively, they would like to have a more fair FFA match and actually have fun while playing it. If you position yourself as a competitive server, it's quite contradicting to have a single gamemode for both Team and FFA games.
2. "You're complaining because you're just bad!" (Can't be taken as a valid argument, but still wanted to respond to it)
No, the real problem is that people would just target me or any other leaderboards player in teams just to write "L" or some sort of thing afterwards and would just want to ruin my games and experience of playing SG. I pesonally (and most of the leaderboards players were too) have been in such accident many times and I've been messaged such stuff most of the times they succeeded to kill me. Targetting might be an issue in FFA matches as well, but it would be a lot easier to dealt with as we both would have no advantage upon each other.
3. "When it was a thing people enjoyed it for 3 days and then moved to team mode".
Hardly disagree on that. I played FFA actively in Season 4 and it constantly had a lot of people playing it. It was actually fun and fair for everybody. If you didn't play it as active as someone else, don't say such stuff.
4. "Teaming gives less elo so it should discourage people from playing in teams in order to gain ELO".
Some people still boost themselves in team. Although it doesn't give as much ELO as playing solo, they still want to be more safe and always have someone to protect their back. A perfect example of that is Zath and HayatlesSHADOW on EU or Vyus on NA, who are/were just teaming with people in order to boost themselves. When their teammate carries them, they can just chill and don't even do anything, they would still get that sweet 4-5 ELO for winning a game (talking about high ELO players, I made a research myself and I noticed that even if you only got 1 kill in game and win, you would still get 4 ELO as if you got 8 kills and won the game). Boosters often have a mentality "I'd rather gain less ELO than get killed in first PvP engagement", and it works fine as we can see by these prime examples. As we can see, nothing discouraged them from playing in team as we can tell by their places in the leaderboard.
My feedback on current status of SG:
It's just unfair and basically becomes unplayable when you're a leaderboards player and cannot disguise, and also this gamemode is just full of teams (I would say good 30-40% of each lobby is actually teaming, especially Turkish people).
And here are some of additional suggestions how you could improve the gamemode:
1. ELO-based SG games.
The idea behind this comes from other competitive games such as Overwatch, League of Legends or any other games that have some sort of rating gamemodes implemented. If you want to make something competitive, you need all players to have an equal chance to win a game and having ELO-based SG matchmaking would be a perfect thing to implement and resolve the issue. I personally don't find it fun to play against Golds or Silvers when I'm Sapphire.
2. Separating Team and FFA SG Leaderboards. (in case it would be reverted back)
As far as I'm concerned back in Season 4 there were no separation between Team and FFA ELO. As you can obviously tell, it was unfair for solo players as people could've just played in team all the time and get high ELO.

Feel free to leave your feedback, counter-arguments or additional stuff in this thread, I would appreciate everything and would like to discuss this topic with the community.

-1 I don't see the point of making the two different leaderboards, because taking out teams on your own takes good amount of skill and is quite satisfying. So removing it will remove the aspect of skill and satisfaction.Posted on 25 February 2018 - 11:07 AM

Fair enough about skill. But still, aren't competitive games supposed to be fair for everyone? (by "fair" I mean rating, amount of players in team, etc.) Also, if you want to take out some teams, you can play team mode.
My main reason to write this thread was to show that Badlion needs to make SG competitive (meaning fair for everyone), because current amount of players who boost ELO in team is quite big, meaning these players who do that can't compete to solo players and should't have as much rating as solos and this is the reason why I suggested adding 2 different leaderboards. It is basically unfair to keep it as it is now, because you can just have your teammate to do all the dirty work and then just kill him in final fight and get some sweet ELO for free. This takes 0 skill to do whatsoever.
