I am here to talk about something helpful. For the past years, Badlion has made competitive tournaments with money involved, I think this is a good idea but there must be some changes.
1. Not to make massive tournaments cash prizes like 5000$ because it would give you the opportunity to have more tournaments and invest in Minecraft E-Sports. I think small tournaments with 100-500$ max cash prizes would be better or even just a better rank / client give away that would promote the shop.
2. Don't invest money in these massive cash prize tournaments for games that were neglected and were even neglected straight after the tournament like the 5000$ CTF tournement. Sorry to say this but this is true. People only play games that aren't Arena or UHC if there is a prize involved on Badlion because they don't really care.
3. If you were to invest money like 5000$ into Minecraft I have a few suggestions. Either organise big tournaments in a city or something ( like Overwatch and CS ) or at Minecon or these new Minevention events, have tournements on Badlion ( like Hypixel and Mineplex do) and give out trophies or other prizes. ( get ESL to get somewhat of a partnership ). This would help bring back the PVP community on Badlion who sorry again for saying this have left Badlion because of some unhelpful influences who insult or criticise Badlion.
4. Make bigger announcements, don't just out the names of the winners on the forums because people forget the tournement even happened. You should make an announcement on the Network by saying something along the lines of
"X just won the tournement, [link] participate next time to win such prizes…"
Anyway these are improvements I think should be implemented.
Have a nice day.
+1 or -1 for the sections.

The problem with making arena tournaments is they don't take nearly as much skill as other gamemodes. It's like having an aim map in cs:go for a large tournament, it's not right because it just doesn't take as much skill as a normal game. Arena is like an aim map, while ctf, ctw, and dom are like the actual game. Same thing with uhc.

I mean that is true but it would be the same thing, a game versus a kit. But they could make a UHC Meetup ( mini ) tournement I guess seeing as it is way more popular ( even though teaming cleaning etc: would be a problem )Posted on 14 March 2018 - 02:11 PM

Hey, thanks for your feedback! It's always nice to hear from the community on what we could be doing better with our tournaments. I'm gonna break down your post and respond to each part.Anonymous Quote
Ultimately a lot of the planning and budgeting for our "flagship" cash prize event is done at a high level, usually with Turtle Entertainment Online (ESL) getting involved. The aim is to attract as many viewers as possible while having a few huge tournaments. If you've ever seen other esports, they typically operate by running 1 or 2 major tournaments per year, and their tournaments include extended qualifiers which eventually lead into a grand finals with a huge prize pool. Ultimately, our goal is to get people watching, and having a small number of major events serves that purpose better than a large number of minor events.

As we see it, the future of competitive Minecraft likely lies in team-based games. While we do see potential in things like UHC Elite and Arena Global tournies, these gamemodes don't work very well as a spectator sport - It's not fun to watch unless you're watching a streamer play the game in first person.
As for your concern about neglected gamemodes, we ideally would like to get a set of 3 team gamemodes which we can focus on and put all of our resources into for future tournaments. What exact gamemodes we use is still a matter of debate, but know that we do realize that the neglect of these competitive gamemodes outside of tournaments is a concern. Thank you for bringing this up, as it's an important point and something that we will have to work on harder.

Unfortunately it would take much more than $5000 to set up and run a LAN tournament and fly 8 or 16 teams of teenagers out to the location. Not to mention, at this point it would be mostly a waste because we don't have a polished set of games or enough top-tier teams to do something like this. It is a nice long-term goal, and someday if Badlion esports can continue to grow, LAN might be something that we revisit with ESL.
The Minecon/Minevention events, while they do have a big audience, probably aren't what we need. They already are mostly filled with younger kids and their parents, and they would probably be about as happy to have us there as we would them. The wider community tends to not be terribly fond of competitive PvP, and I'm not sure that's the right place to try to gain exposure. Still though, it's an interesting idea, but it presents a lot of the same challenges as the LAN tournament suggestion.

This is an interesting idea and something that I personally would like to see implemented in the near future. I like the idea of promoting the name of the winner(s) more for our events, and that link thing to the next tournament is also a good idea. I will bring this up in a conversation with other tournament staff and see how they think we could better promote the winners. After all, there's no better incentive to compete than fame!
Thanks so much for your suggestions, I'll definitely consider some of these in future plans. Hope to see you playing our tournaments, and watching our streams in the future! :)

I mean I know it's more than 5000$ I just said adding those 5000$ and 2500$ tournements together, it adds up to a lot of money

I mean if you promoted it for Minecon or Minevention more Badlion players would come ( which are good at pvp and older ) like what hypixel does when they bring people like CaptainSparklez or Antvenom to play Skywars or build battle which appeals to a younger audience.
Even though promoting Badlion tournements at Minecon would take time to catch on.
And maybe if they win like 50$ in the tournements it would maybe insist people on coming the next year.
