I'm trying to use it on a server me and my friends play on together - PRIVATE SERVER SO JUST US - and it won't work.

The printer is disabled on every server by default. You can configure this API to allow BLC users to use the printer: https://github.com/BadlionNetwork/BadlionClientModAPI
