I personally think that there should be a Mod for a Transparent Background. The reason I think it should be a mod is so that you can change which parts have Transparent Backgrounds. For example, the mod can have a dropdown to with an on/off setting for Pausing, Inventory, Chat, etcetera.

You can do that yourself with a custom resource pack.
