"MC Version:" Disappearing and the message "Error checking for jar updates. check your internet connection and any firewall software you have installed.: appears, I've never had this issue. I have never had any issues with firewalls and my internet is sure as heck working. I was playing right before I closed my game to open a clipping app I've been using for months and then my launcher had this issue.

Have you tried ending the process through Task Manager or simply restarting the launcher?
