As some of you know, I am currently a music major in college. I play percussion and cello, and also compose music. I recently finished writing a solo for marimba, and am self-publishing it (to avoid having the publishing company take more than half the money I'd get from each sale of the piece). A decent recording of it can be heard here: https://soundcloud.com/jacob-aaaaa/variations-for-solo-marimbaLast Friday I had the opportunity to premiere the piece for Gordon Stout (https://www.mostlymarimba.com/artists/461.html?itemid=27), who loved it.
If there are any percussionists in the Badlion community who wish to play my piece, or just have a copy of the music, please send me a message on skype (jacobharnold) or email me at jacob.aaaaa@gmail.com. If you guys like the piece, please spread the word around about it. I'd love to have this composition enter the standard repertoire for marimba players.

At least put other instruments to accompany the marimba qqPosted on 17 February 2015 - 01:50 AM

I'm generally fine with solo instruments, but since the marimba's notes can't really be held, it doesn't sound as good when as a solo instrumentBut to be fair, it's not really an instrument that would sound any better with an accompaniment (aside from other percussion)
