WHY DO I ONLY TAKE KNOCKBACK DIAGONALLLY!!?!??!!

This is so annoying, I only take knockback DIAGONALLY. I get hit by a kb stick, any version doesn't even matter if it's a kb stick at all. I get hit I take kb diagonally. I'm trying to do hypixel skyblock fire trials, and I am getting hit out of the fire. I am not using any cheats or modified versions of the client. It happens typically on badlion, a lot less when im playing on other clients, but i think it's happened on optifine once. Okay, I was on 1.16 while I did this btw. I'll provide a 1.8.9 clip tomorrow probably. (HD HASNT PROCESSED YET AS I MAKE THIS SO LOW QUALITY EXPECTED IF U GET TO ME FAST)(please do not watch my youtube channel, it's mostly cringe roblox from 3 years ago i beg of u not to touch it or else insta-cringe)
