High latency players
I don't have much time for minecraft anymore, so I am usually on late at night when I have nothing else to do. When I am on here, I usually have to fight EU players. These players (not all of them) have a very high latency to the server, and somehow get an extra hit and are able to hit you from further away. It seems that the tables are turning, and instead of the lower ping players getting the advantage, people that don't even live in the same country that the server is hosted in are getting the advantage? I know that you cannot fix this, but maybe start kicking players if their ping is too high? I've recorded a session already and it's just ridiculous and funny to watch in slow-mo, because it almost seems like they are hacking when they aren't.

I understand your pain, and it sucks when you know your opponent would be nothing without his high ping. I only wish there was a way to display player pings the same way you see elo. As far as kicking players for having too high of ping, well that's just unfair, and badlion would lose a lot of players.

If there was a way for everyone to have equal ping, i'd love it, but kicking people for too high ping is just too much .-.

I'm going to investigate how to make ping less of a factor eventually…it might not b possible though.

It's just really odd how players with bad ping can hit you from further way now. It bothers me because they say that they have high ping and still believe they are really good, but they don't know our perspective during the fight.

Agreed, if you call them out on it, then you're just a butthurt ez kid etc. However I have ran into a few who have no problem admitting it's their ping. Only thing I truly hate is players with uber high ping that use KB II. O____O

'bout time this was made.

Trust me when I say this, latency is very overrated. I have 45ms, so I know very well what a lower ping is like. I was wondering one day what latency is really like. I pull up my vpn and connect to various servers and 1v1 a friend. I tried various pings, servers that give me 100ms, 150ms, 200ms, and 250ms. What I have concluded is, yes, 150 and up seems to give you a slight more reach, but with that comes a heap of potlag, shitty hit detection, and more cons.

Low ping>High ping.

Simply because the very slight reach latency gives you isn't enough to make up for the shit hit detection and heaps of potlag. Lower ping gameplay is overall smoother then higher pings.

I have around 120-150 ping to badlion and i have never ever seen "pot lag", its just stupid to excuse with pot lag and all that other "x lag"-shit.

Im not sure if im right but..

PlayerA has 10ping.
PlayerB has 300ping.

PlayerB sees playerA with 300ms latency because playerB receives playerA position packets with 300ms latency.

PlayerA sees PlayerB with 300ms latency because playerB sends position packets with 300ms latency.

Even if playerA sends and receives packets with 10ms latency, playerB still receives packets with 300ms latency.

So it should be equal to both players. Good ping players can see only low ping players warping around but bad ping players sees everyone warping.

The packets are sent to the server and then to the players, so @NomadZ it doesnt work that way.

It goes against all logic, I've heard quite a few people say this though.

On a similar note, players with low latency obviously get knocked back quicker than players with a higher latency. Which could therefore lead to easier combo's for players with more latency.

I've got a few theories about the 'reach' but nothing concrete and also we need to know what causes it first. If it has nothing to do with server or client coding (priorities for example) then there is only one way I can think of to fix it & its very inefficient.

I think we need proof it actually exists first though, not enough people make a thing of it. I for one couldn't give a shit about it.

I think a lot of people make a big thing about ping when It's not even relevant but just an excuse, where as other times I think ping hugely affects PVP. Generally I'd always say a lower ping is better though, as I'm sure most would.

I think I think too much.

EDIT: I say we as in everyone, not like I work on the server.

I agree i'd much rather have 1 ping than 150. (or 100 as i do)

Not correct. The people that do a lot of knockback have good internet, but low ping. A VPN cannot be considered that.
