I understand fully Badlion's opinion on vanilla, that anything in vanilla MC should be in the vanilla ladder. The reason you put the rod in the kit is because you say it is used in vanilla pvp. As a person who has played MC since beta, badlion since a few weeks after it came out, and pvp in general since early 2012, I have never seen people use the rod the way it is used in this "realistic" pvp scenario. What I'm trying to say here, is that a fishing rod is commonly used to simply run down buffs, drag fights, or even camp. I have no problem if somebody uses a rod to knock people away in order to pot/regin, as they are used this way in real pvp (MCSG), but when they are used simply to prevent your opponent from getting close enough to hit you (literally the same thing as camping in of that you are sitting there, in a spot that your opponent cannot reach while bowing/waiting out his [or her] pots), that is when I have a problem.
Now what you're going to say is that everybody can use them, and you're just getting outplayed if you don't. Then why, did you remove gapples unless both players have them, why have an enderpearl cooldown, or why not allow people to "outplay" everybody by camping?
My only request is that you make fishing rods the same thing as gapples. (If one player doesn't have one, then it is removed from your inventory/replaced with a potion) Or you could put a 3-5 second cooldown, like in soup. If more people decide to scrape 10 minute + fights by running, bowing, and rodding, especially in the vanilla and kohi, (a fishing rod isn't in the real kohi kits, btw) those ladders may just die.

Disclaimers -- I don't care about bows because they actually take skill to use.
- No, I don't want the enderpearl cooldown removed, nor do I want gapples in the vanilla ladder, those were just examples.
- No, I don't think that the fishing rod represents a true show of skill
- No, I am not interested in spending 10 minutes + on a vanilla fight. Those should only take 4 minutes max in my opinion.

+1 I was killed by a guy on NoDebuff using this method, fishing rods should be kept to mcsg. The guy basically just fishing rodded me then bowed me, and it was unfair asf because I was destroying him in the actual fighting. Rods and bows should be kept to all non potion related ladders.Posted on 14 April 2015 - 10:41 PM

A) This entire post is about removing rods because of their effects on the melee portion of pvp. You seem to have missed that.
B) I said that I don't care about bows, and therefore they are not a valid reason to keep rods in the game.
C) Many players don't bring bows with them in these ladders. I don't know of any very highly rated players who do use bows, unless they rod as well. (feel free to correct me)
D) You fail to acknowledge the camping and running out of buffs that happens in result of rods.
Edit-
I thought this was hilarious…

If i were you, I'd just ditch the sword for another healing pot, it seems ineffectual in your case.

+1, I think the fishing rod should be removed from Potion PvP ladders because if you spam them, you are basically running out buffs and + with these bad maps (that are tweaked but not implemented, #SoonTM) it is basically just aids.Posted on 16 April 2015 - 11:02 PM
I'm for it, people don't use it for anything but camping anymore. :(Posted on 17 April 2015 - 09:22 AM
I would say keep them if people were actaully tactical with them, but people only use them to rod spam.Posted on 17 April 2015 - 01:40 PM
Definitely +1 Some guy wasted like 2 minutes running away with a fishing pole to regen on kohi -_-
