Difference between SP and SMP hit detection
Played singleplayer for the first time in a while today, and noticed that I can hit mobs a lot farther away. I went on a faction server that I get fairly good ping to, and tested it. Even when I am standing still, I cannot even get particles on them whereas I can get particles on them in singleplayer. I remember them combining the two a while ago in an update, so why is it like this? Nocheat limitation?

Remember the servers are based on ping, and singleplayer is not, so basically its like if you had 0ms ping on singlryer OR mojang reduce the radius of hitting ON MULTIPLAYER to take off relog? Who knows..

I believe that the max reach on servers is 4 blocks or something, while in SP it's 5. The SMP 4-block reach is for lag compensation. Don't quote me, but I believe I read something on this a while back.

Not right because I tested this while standing still next to a mob. Counted the blocks in between us and could not get particles. On singleplayer, the same distance would result in me getting particles.
