I think it doesn't matter as long as your ping is less than 300.

I've proved time and time again to my friends that ping doesn't matter that much by relaying my connection to eu then back to us.

I have to disagree with that, once you pass 200ms you will start lagging around on your opponents screen. Just try AU pvp on EU or US, you will get 300+ ms and it will be impossible to pvp, but with anything less than 90/100 ms nobody has any reason to complain

That is only crappy Anti-Cheat plugins that you find on BukkitDev such as the plugin, NCP.
