Your tournament staff team is very pleased to announce a new upcoming event! Please, use this thread only for sign-ups - if you wish to discuss the event in any way, please do it on this thread.

Overview

Each team will consist of at least 3 players, with the option to have 1 sub, and a total roster size of 4.
Up to 64 teams will be accepted for this event, with priority given to those who score higher with our seeding method (explained below).
This event will take place Saturday, August 29th, starting at 12:00 PM EST

Please note: we will be trying to keep to this schedule as much as possible, however, unforeseen circumstances may cause us to deviate slightly from it. We will keep you well informed of any changes, and hope that you will work with us to trouble-shoot any issues that may arise.

Signing Up

To sign up, please have one member of your team post on this thread with the IGNs of all of you. Before posting, please make sure that your full team is on board with playing - as you will find out later when reading the Blacklist section of this post, there will be consequences if you do not show up for the event.

Seeding/Sign Up Deadline

Important: as only 64 teams will be able to participate, seeding is very important - it may very well decide wether or not you get to play in the tournament in the first place. Teams will not be selected on a first-come-first-serve basis, but rather, chosen based on the most accurate data we have of their skill level - Ranked BuildUHC ELO. For each team that enters, we will take the average of the top two player's BuildUHC elo to rank them. We announce this now, so you are given notice of this and will be able to grind up if your team's ELO does not currently represent your ability.

Since we want you all to know, in advance, who will be playing, there will be a cut-off for the sign-up period. Exactly 1 day before the event starts, at 12:00 PM Friday, August 28th, we will no longer be accepting teams that sign up, and seeds/participants will be announced and locked into place.

Server

We will be using the 'Tournament' server for this event which is hosted where the NA servers are.

Maps

All classic BuildUHC maps will be used for this event as they appear on the regular servers.

Event Specific Rules

BuildUHC can be an incredibly fun, strategically deep, and dynamic ladder. We do not wish to limit your creativity in playing it, however, we do wish to make sure every match is interesting. In general, we will discourage certain play styles in favor of extending matches and camping.

- Any form of sky basing is illegal. You may not as an individual or team fortify yourself at a great altitude to camp (in the air or on a tree), waiting for your opponent to come to you so you can knock them down. It is a cheap, boring, and overpowered strategy - not to mention, there will be an even harsher ban for you than the normal 3 day one.
- Absurd defensive lava usage is illegal. Any huge curtains made such that passage through them is highly unlikely, for the purpose of setting enemy players aflame and positioning oneself or one's team to bow spam oncoming assailants with excessive ease will not be tolerated.
- You must have 2 players present, at least, to play. If only 1 of you shows up for a round, he/she will be exempt from punishment, and the remaining 3 will be blacklisted.

Blacklist

Any action for which you would be muted/kicked/banned on the normal Badlion practice servers will cause the same punishment, if not to a much harsher extent than usual. In addition, under certain circumstances, a user may be blacklisted and/or their clan may be disqualified. For egregious behaviors, those involved will receive blacklists and their teams will be dismissed from the event - we do this to make sure you understand, your clan is your responsibility, keep your players in check. Examples of such actions include, but are not limited to:

- Use of any type of illegal modification/hack during a tournament, as more thoroughly explained in the Badlion rules.
- Significant poor sportsmanship or disrespect, such as trash talk towards Tournament Staff or fellow competitors.
- Malicious use of bugs to win matches.
- Inability to show up to matches.
- Inability to follow any of the event specific rules depicted above.
- Conscious resistance to Tournament Staff instruction.

Remember: Only individuals guilty of these actions will receive black lists, however, in addition, their team will be disqualified. If you are blacklisted from this event, you will not be allowed to participate in the following event. You may appeal any blacklist on the forums afterwards, whether to apologize or contest our decision.

Looking Forward

BuildUHC offers new dimensions that we have yet to touch with our other events. The ability to interact with blocks and to share healing items (Golden Apples/Heads) between team mates, the jump to 3 players on the field. Badlion began as a practice server for 1v1s, became one of the hot spots for UHC, and now it is our intent to branch off into heavy team based tournament play. Keep working on your Clans - we have huge plans for these in the works!
