Gentlemen, Mojang just banned MC server profits.
Please read the entire post, because this is somewhat urgent. Today, I was notified of Mojang and a change of their Minecraft EULA, or the agreement between the purchaser and the company. Basically:What Mojang has done is completely embargo servers being able to sell their plugins for a profit. What this means? If there's a service that the server provides for money, then this server would, theoretically, be shut down by Mojang due to violating the EULA. Therefore, no servers can gain profit. No profit=No servers.

A petition has already been set up with 1,000+ people, with more hopefully joining in as we speak.

Please excuse the following link, but for more information, please look at the OCN forum post (Where I got this from).

That is all.

Again, if this is advertising I truly apologize, but I think this is urgent enough to have a little pardon, considering it may decide the fate of servers.

I don't really see what Mojang was thinking when they did this. A huge portion of Minecraft's multiplayer community relies on these servers, and without them, it'll all just die.

And it's not advertising, don't worry.

this kind of reminds me of "SOPA" which was total bullshit.

It's because they just released Minecraft Realms probably

It's not going to happen, too big of a riot is going to break out, I'll just keep collecting my money, thanks anyway Mojang.

Finally someone understands my thoughts >.>

Minecraft Realms is practically useless because of the MP servers, so what do they do? Remind people of the EULA so that they can basically say:"If we implement this you'll have to pay us to have some servers, and without any plugins either. Isn't that nice?"

I'll worry about it when they send a lawyer to a larger network, and not until then.

Calm down. It's just grum discussing in a skype chat. As he said himself "nothing is actually decided upon". This probably won't resolve like everyone thinks it will, if it even happens at all.

[3/06/2014 10:16:01 PM] Erik Broes: We'll give you a way to fund your server besides donations

[3/06/2014 10:20:28 PM] Erik Broes: You would be able to charge for access to your server
[3/06/2014 10:20:34 PM] Erik Broes: and take donations
[3/06/2014 10:20:40 PM] Erik Broes: and that's it.

[3/06/2014 10:16:55 PM] Erik Broes: meh I cannot go into it more right now

They won't follow through with it.

The majority of minecraft users play on minecraft to play multiplayer. Most servers are ran because they are being donated towards and supported. If donations are not allowed, then, in theory, a lot of servers that are regularly used will close. Those users will more than likely not find another server, probably driving them to other games.

Probably a bit over exaggerated, but it would mean people losing interest in minecraft. They are already getting hate from it, one person even claims to have ddos'd minecraft because of what they have bought in ( https://twitter.com/lelddos/status/474733612420448257 ).

Mojang will not like any of it and go back. I will only believe it if they truly do take action on more than 1 server.

There Is No Way This Will Happen. Most Of Minecraft Generally Is Multiplayer. With No Online Games, Minecraft Wont Be Near As Popular. This Will Ruin Them And Us. It Wont Be Doing Any Good Dion it..

According to the new eula, the only thing we'll have to change stuff on the factions server (/kit on the factions server, silk spawners, etc). The whole potion/soup pvp is protected by the new EULA. You can charge for access to anything not related to ingame items by mojang (such as access to a server, or unlimited rank matches, in our instance.). This mostly affects pay to win servers and servers where you can buy items (directly/indirectly) in minecraft for real life money.

My friend boogie posted a video about this. For people not willing to research the subject themselves, the video does a decent job explaining the situation.

mineage and koonkraft are fucked. game types like HCF will survive because you cant donate for perks really (who the fuck wants shotbow xp multiplier), team servers, kohi and badlion will come out on top. highest donation is £90 on this network. we shouldn't sweat it.

This ended, nerd. @BetterSprint

The chances of a company over seas such as Mojang suing a U.S. based server is highly unlikely in my eyes.

So is this why badlion had the 25% sale? To get as much money as they could before mojang completely bans it?
