Diamond is mostly melee based but people use the bow to start combos and it would change the ladder quite a bit to have it removed. Honestly though, a ladder with nothing but a sword would be extremely ping-based (as if diamond isn't ping-based enough) since there wouldn't be a way to assure you get extra hits on somebody with better ping than you.
