So, as many of you know Badlion has added a new ladder in Skywars and I thought I'd type up why it's currently bad & how to fix it! because if I just told you whats bad, how would you fix it?Why it's bad:
- Well, whoever is the fastest bridger, essentially wins. Now, you could say bridging takes skill and I agree, there are some ways of building a bridge faster but if the server lags or you yourself lag, games over, you're dead.. GG? Adding this to arena PVP with elo makes this a competitive gamemode, you can't have aspects of where a 2100 elo player can lose to a 1200 elo player because the server lagging for half a second.
- Skywars isn't a gamemode that really works in a 1v1 aspect, in my opinion anyway. Badlion skywars should by a gamemode where multiple players / teams all fight against eachother where if you're first to mid then you don't 99% win the game, you have more to watch out for and another team / player can sneak up around from the area you're not currently watching. Perhaps the elo you gain from the game in by the kill you get? For example; I get 3 kills and get the max 30elo and then get killed and lose 21 elo, I'm still up 9 elo which I deserved by getting my kills. Yes, I do understand this make take some work and why you'd just look at this and say "eh, people are playing it who cares" but please… This is hardly enjoyable.
- Projectiles. There's too many. "Hey, I made it to mid first with my OCN bridging strats, lets snowball this guy off!" "Crap! I ran out of snowballs, time to use all 64 of my arrows" "Darn, I'm bad at my bow skills today, lets use my ro-" *5 minutes has passed and the mans island & blocks are gone and he's dead because he couldn't out-bridge the other player* RIP! */msg ilikebooty69 Ahh goodgame, I outplayed you!*
Alright, now I've only played a small amount of Skywars games so these are the only real problems I can clearly see currently, I'm pretty sure there will be more that I'm unaware of, feel free to let me know them. Time to let you know to fix!
- A lot of these problems can be fixed by adding something I already mentioned in adding more players / teams to a single game, do it however you want as I'm sure you will, but this will make games more fun and increase the extremely low out-play potential the gamemode by a lot.
- You should start with very little projectiles, maybe 9 arrows, 4 snowballs, you can keep the rod, sure..
- Islands shouldn't get destroyed after 5 minutes, move the islands closer to the middle so that if a player is camping (which is a valid tactic, if they so choose to live the boring life) the player who is pushing can get there without much of a problem, as the camping player can actually able to run out of projectiles now.
TL;DR: Games need more players, around 8 would be a good number, projectiles need to be WAY lower & islands should be moved closer to mid.
I'm sure there's more ways to fix these problems, but they've gone from my head, from what I know a friend of mine who goes by Reapism is making a video on why skywars is currently bad so if you would prefer to watch that, I'll link it whenever he uploads.
Thanks for reading, let me know if you agree, disagree and why you think that way. Sharing this around would also help so it could actually make a difference, thanks!
EDIT: Make this an event, get rid of it as a ladder - Suggested by Aymbaut

Very good constructive criticism. I like it how much of this community doesn't just complain- but actually gives solutions to fix it.Posted on 19 September 2015 - 07:19 PM
+1 Would love to see something like a 1v1v1v1 in laddersPosted on 19 September 2015 - 08:40 PM
im a 1290 in this on my alt… I HAVENT BEEN THAT LOW IN ANY LADDER SINCE MY FIRST SEASON UWUTPosted on 19 September 2015 - 08:53 PM
Completely agree, skywars just does not work in a 1v1 situation, I'd say just make it an event and scrap the ladderPosted on 20 September 2015 - 12:44 AM

+1 I agree.I also would like to see skywars be added to there party ffa's but that would mean custom maps with different amounts of islands. Would be worth it though.

If you want to play SkyWars than you can play the actual SkyWars game mode when it is released. We will not be removing the ladder, it is here to stay. I do think it need's some tweaking though. The night before release I had actually suggested reworking the maps to be in a 6 o clock and a 4:30 o clock position so your objective is to make it to the middle island and not get knocked off.
We want to do something with the middle island as well, haven't decided on everything yet.
Once again stressing that a full SkyWars game mode will be out soon, and we do not want to try and compete with it on the Arena server. If you want to play SkyWars you go there, if you want to practice the mechanics of it you go onto the Arena server.

You love having a race to the middle of the map and them one hitting them off? That's not fun & takes next to 0 skill, someone with no brain could get high elo in this ladder and that makes it no where near a competitive ladder

I understand what you're saying, but you really can't have elo in a game where the kills are 78% void. Currently, if I get to mid before you then I can throw one snowball at you (Currently making your bridge) and then you're dead, does that make me a better player than you? No, no it does not. So why am I gaining elo and a ranking to say I am better? It just doesn't make sense. I beg of you, please take in some of the suggestions I put, I don't think you realize how much this ladder needs them.

That's the whole point of it. The game mode is based on the void. It's about bridging and not getting hit off. This is literally what skywars is. A bunch of pvp where if you get hit off a small island/bridge you die.
The entire point of the void is to make it more challenging to not get hit off etc. I've seen some good fights happen already with it.

How can a gamemode be considered competitive and have an elo ranking when the game is based around knocking somebody off your island, minecraft knockback is random, I really don't see how a gamemode can be considered competitive when the main goal of the game is literally a random chance.
Take a look at the replies of this, I believe everyone agrees with what I took the time to write for you, to make your gamemode better which I'm fairly sure it will because currently its lacking a lot, I see next to no out-play potential in this & if you want to call this a competitive ladder, it needs a lot of change.

Minecraft knockback is not random. I think the game mode can be better too, but none of your suggestions are valid except for moving the islands possibly closer together. Every other suggestion is about making SkyWars Arena into Skywars, which is a separate game mode and will remain separate.
Edit: and removing some of the projectiles.

Minecraft knockback is most definitely random, but I see there's no point in me trying to help this ladder so I'll just stop here. Thanks for taking the time to read.@MasterGberry
