So, I'm a pretty bad player and I'm stuck at the same ELO, 1700. A couple weeks ago I made it to 1800 and I instantly got drained back to 1700, but I need tips. I mostly do BuildUHC, but if you have tips for any other ladders, like MCSG (1700) or archer (also 1700) or even UHC (1500) then I would be happy to hear them. I just feel like I am not a good pvper at all, there are so many people out there that are like 10x better than me and I want to learn to be as good as them.By the way, this happened a couple days ago and I got super excited lol, I probably got lucky but I feel like I have to tell everyone. ^_^

Most of the people here use the so swaggy fishing rod as a pvp tool. It actually works and helps you getting more combos, but it is very very very cheap imo. If you're not a rodder and can't get over 1800, then use it :/If you are a rodder, and you've always played with it, then practice more with it… I honestly got at 1800 the hard way ;n; but it was challenging, therefore fun (for me).
Also, try to use the bow at the start if your opponent is sword rushing, you'll have a big health advantage.
Also, during the fight, try to eat your gapples first, and then your heads. This might be a game changer. People usally wait untill they're down 4 hearts and eat gheads. You should keep them for as long as you can.
Practice with lava, you might get your opponent stuck in the lava and kill him.
Stay away from the walls, people usually place lava on them while you're close to them (you should also try to do this).
Possibly pregapple. 80% of the people pregap in BuildUHC, you don't want to be in disadvantage.
Also, in the snow map, try to remove the snow layer with your water, this will make the whole fight less hitler for both of you.
I guess that's it, good luck :P

About archer, there isn't really much I can tell you :/ Just try to have a good strafe and keep it a long range fight. Don't even try to get too close, it is risky and kinda childish. Try to keep calm and shoot full charged shots. That's how I do it.For UHC, (ab)use your bow. It is really important to make them lose their healing before you think of swordrushing. Remember their bow has Infinity, so don't rush if you're too far away from your opponent.

@Nicosby Thanks for the tips. I try to improve my rod skills and I find it's really hard against some people. For example I met somebody named DaroodSandstorm and he was insane with the rod, I couldn't even touch him. Do you have any hotbar setups that might be good for the rod?Posted on 22 November 2015 - 07:18 AM
I don't use it, so no. I usally place some blocks behind me so that I won't get knockbackstormed (combo'd).Posted on 22 November 2015 - 12:07 PM

@SuperSandwish I was talking about BuildUHC. Anyways, I don't mind when people rod a lot, I just set a goal for me to get better at it.Posted on 22 November 2015 - 09:40 PM
If you look on youtube you may find some useful videos regarding helpful PvP tips. Good luck!Posted on 23 November 2015 - 11:08 AM
maybe if I have time I'll give some tips but damn man you do know CreeperFarts has like 2080 on his main right? You have potential xPPosted on 23 November 2015 - 03:25 PM
@jensenSAMA Thanks. I think I just got a little lucky, but it was sure a great fight! :)Posted on 23 November 2015 - 04:45 PM
I would give you tips but you are ranked higher than me in all of those ladders xDHere are some build tips anyway:
- Time blockhits
- Dont rod too late or it will be useless, I personally rod when around 3/4 blocks from my opponent
- Try to conserve healing, if 3 hearts down dont waste a head, use a gapple
- You dont need to conserve arrows as much as you need to in ladders such as MCSG, just try to bowstrafe and charge bows to at least half
- I personally hate lava, but just place it when your opponent is healing or running towards you
- Wall up if you feel you will lose a bow fight and they are forcing archery fights

@Unsighted Although you have lower ELO, these were some very helpful tips. Thank you. :)Posted on 24 November 2015 - 11:51 AM
Play a lot of Unranked MCSG to practice your rod, it helps a lotPosted on 24 November 2015 - 09:51 PM
Archer tips if you don't already know:qazzy1122 wrote
The key to archer is predicting where your opponent is gonna be, and moving yourself unpredictably. Focus on watching what your opponent's movement pattern is before they shoot. Normally, this leads me to aim just to the side of where they are currently standing.
For yourself, as I said, be unpredictable. Change the speed you shoot with. Switch your strafing patterns from back and forth to all one direction, to standing still, depending on how your opponent is shooting at you.
Some things to NEVER do:
1. Don't shoot yourself in the ass. All it does is make you look like an idiot and take damage.
2. Don't jump. If I notice that you jump every single time before you shoot, you've told me exactly where and when I can shoot you in the face next time you press the space bar.
Some thing to ALWAYS do:
1. Close in on you opponent when they are low! If you are at 5 hearts and they are at 1, and you are 50 blocks apart, they could still kill you in 2 shots, and 1 shot from you would be overkill. Close in on them, so that even if you get hit twice and hit them once, the damage will be low enough to kill them and not you.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

@qazzy1122 Thanks! Although I don't play Archer as often, these will still really help in different situations with the bow as well.Posted on 26 November 2015 - 12:00 PM
ArcherDon't fix your strafe. Keep switching it up until you find something that the opponent is consistently missing against. Try not to fall into a pattern, but don't use predictable random strafing either. You'll just have to find something that works.
Don't strafe too much when you're at 40 blocks or a longer range. It's going to make your movements more predictable, and you're going to get hit more often. I'd recommend just dodging arrows at that point.
Find the range that works best for you. People tend to perform better in one range more than another. Try to figure out what this is and use that to your advantage: if it's short range, try to close in on opponents, if it's mid range, stay somewhat distanced, if it's long range, don't go in.
Release your arrow early if you feel like your opponent is about to shoot you where you're standing– this is when your opponent has his bow charged (and can hit you), but you don't have your bow charged.
