I have experienced this before, if you hit someone with your rod and immediately switch to your sword and hit them, there is no sound of your sword hitting.Posted on 21 January 2016 - 09:49 PM
What I'm saying here might be correct or it might be so far off from the truth…If you do the "rod trick" correctly you'll be able to get a double hit on opponents. Basically, if you rod someone quickly then switch to your sword and click pretty fast, you'll register two hits instead of just one. This essentially does "double damage" for one hit.
Try testing this in a SP world-it's how I learned it. Install DAMAGE INDICATORS when you're trying to test this out. Spawn some witches, run up to them, rod, then switch to sword and quickly hit. You'll notice that you'll more damage. You'll do your base damage, plus 50% critical damage, and multiply that by two if you did the rod trick correctly. I tried with a stone sword. A Witch has 26 HP –> If you did the rod trick correctly the witch should have only 8 HP left. You've essentially done 9 hearts of damage in a single hit with a stone sword.
Again, take what I'm saying with a grain of salt. It might not be true.

It's true, I've tested it on zombies and already started doing it in 1v1s
