I think this was a big reason you saw so many teams no show, it's incredibly hard to keep 5 people on a server without a break waiting to start their match for such a long time. To prevent future dqs, I think better website integration and better scheduling would help significantly. Being able to give teams a window of time to be on (similar to OCN) would be optimal. Having a confirmation system where every member has to make a website account and confirm within a certain amount of time would be a good way to ensure minimal competency and make sure people will remember to show up.
The last tournament (BuildUHC 1v1) was properly scheduled. We had a start time for both Wave A and Wave B so the Wave B people did not need to wait around, they just showed up when it was their time to play. For this event I did not collect data and figure out what would be the best for scheduling. It's my fault everyone in pool 9-16 had to wait three hours. Even if I did try to collect data to predict how long each wave would last I probably would have been wrong, I don't think anyone saw three hours per wave coming.

We will see what the future holds to be honest. I'm thinking that in the future we might host tournaments in both regions simultaneously, and we might take the winners of each region and force them to play a series on the other team's servers (e.g. the winner of the NA brackets fights on the EU servers and the NA servers). Something of the sort to try and make the gameplay fair for both teams. NA East is an ideal location though because there are players to the west coast of the US and central Europe that both get about the same latency to NA East.

now this is why I play minecraft because the atmosphere is just amazing (apart from the killing and toxicity xD) the team work and the love shared is just fantastic , I just wish my friends at school would understand this because to be honest they mock me for playing minecraft but like an old man said forgive and forget.Posted on 26 January 2016 - 08:54 AM

I was told something about the community being toxic.
From a personal perspective (this is not an official Badlion Statement), they are entertainers. They make money off of videos/streaming. They thought it would be a good idea to sponsor a tournament with us because it would bring them more attention and publicity. They hope to increase their viewer counts and as a result increase their profit. I think in the end they decided that it was not a worthwhile investment of $1000 to them, as they would probably not make the money back.
For us on the other hand, the $1000 fund was definitely worth the investment. Badlion has seen a lot of growth in the past month and a lot of it is from the tournament. Not only that, it was fun, and it is also leading towards the future of Badlion's competitive team gameplay. In our eyes it was totally worth hosting the tournament, and we plan to see a lot more growth and future tournaments.
