Um if you control the flow of the match by going beside the opponent (Stay on their left or right) you can rod them and then strafe them in the combo then there you go. Basically what BlueDeww does. Also, if someone tries to cut you down the middle and not allow you to strafe, you have to quickly change rod directions and timing. This is what I do. I almost never straightline.

Oh I know, I'm just talking about most of the community. They count on the rod and are horrible at raw melee. If you are good at raw melee and the rod, good on you.

It's about timing it when you're about to get it, a good way for beginners is to tap when they turn red.
