Apparently today the old ranking system is back, to where it shows your elo score instead of what actual rank you are. It was frustrating in the beginning to see that it was back since the new ranking system was great, but I understand why: many players want to see their exact score to calculate how far away they are from the next spot above them. I completely agree with this but at the same time being able to see what rank you are was extremely convenient and a lot of players I know preferred it this way.My suggestion is to include both - putting the rank first and then showing the elo score of the player.
Example:
Swording #6 - 1956
#6 being the spot the player is currently at relative to other players on the server and 1956 being their elo score showing how far they are away from the next spot above or below.
Thanks, I hope this is implemented because upon introducing my idea to others they were very excited about it.

ELO rankings are not back. People are just seeing high numbers because they have a really low rank. You have to remember that thousands and thousands of people play Badlion and being Rank #2000 for example in a ladder just means that 1999 other people that play that ladder are better than you.Posted on 14 July 2014 - 09:21 PM

So we want both in the pink messages? I can't do both for the tab list.

Yes, adding it to the pink messages showing the outcome of the match would be great. Showing in tab would also be amazing but if that's not possible then the other is just fine!Posted on 14 July 2014 - 09:30 PM

Nope. I just program the stuff and throw it on the server without going on to make sure it works.
If you ask a stupid question, you are going to get a stupid answer :)

"Have you been on the server today?" was in reply to SmellyPenguin. Not you :PI forgot to quote his comment.

actually, it is in fact elo. im so happy Gberry considered my idea :D:D:D:D
but i did notice that not all people's ranks transitioned well to elo. if im not mistaken, the default elo was 1400 in previous seasons. however, there are some people as of now with 100, 200, even 0 elo. @MasterGberry

This rating system isn't ELO… maybe that's why people have 0? Biggest mistake was showing you guys the behind the scenes things because you guys can't deal without having numbers that aren't an exact conversion (which is why sometimes it looks like you ar elosing rank when winning)Posted on 14 July 2014 - 10:32 PM

Rating starts at 0 now, not 1400 anymore. If you win and lose 1 game at a time, your rating will still be around 1400. (We aren't using ELO, its a different rating system)

okay jeez my bad i automatically relate elo to rating because hats the only rating i'm used to.

and it probably isnt a good idea to start the rating at 0 because the current rank 1 has 2089 rating ( vanilla ) which is a very, very big gap. the fact that this gap IS so big is probably why people like Ocracy https://www.badlion.net/match/kitpvp/203960 actually lose points for winning. if the default was 1400 it would make it much more consistent. (btw, winning 1 and losing 1 brings you to about 400 rating, not 1400)

The relation to ELO is expected, we brought ELO to the MC community. Now we are replacing it with something better.
The reason you start at 0 is because the system needs to find out where you belong with "placement matches." Your first 10 matches are VERY significant to figure out where you belong. Onwards it starts meaning less and less (until u go on massive win/loss streaks). The actual solution is to fix matchmaking, which I am working on at this moment. Time to put together a real matchmaking system (or at least better than pairing the first 2 people).
Winning and losing 1 enough times will raise you up.

I actually can't wait for both rating and position. Thanks for considering my idea!
And now that you explained it, I completely understand how the ranking system works now. As a league player this is very similar and this new ranking system is better imo.
