Back when I used the scroll wheel, I did have my rod in my 9th slot. However, I now use hotkeys, and my hotbar is set up as follows:

Slot 1 - Sword (CAPS lock)
Slot 2 - Rod (C)
Slot 3 - Bow (V)
Slot 4 - Lava Bucket (R)
Slot 5 - Water Bucket (T)
Slot 6 - Gapples (G)
Slot 7 - Golden Heads (B)
Slot 8 - Pickaxe (N)
Slot 9 - Cobblestone (H)

WASD to move;
F for sprint;
Shift for sneak;
Top mouse side button for Toggle Perspective;
E for inventory;
Left Alt for Cinematic Mode (useful when in OptiFine zoom).

Try setting some of your hotbar hotkeys to the numbers on the keyboard….probably easier than having to spider-tap all over your left side of the keyboard when you're trying to play LOL

How do people put swords in their 1 slot. It's so hard to reach. 2 is the easiest. Also how do u have sword 1 and rod 2? That uses the same finger for both having 2 different fingers makes rodding way easier

I probably should do that. I've found that this hotkey setup works amazingly well once you get used to it, but it feels weird not using the number keys at all.

The benefit to my setup is that I never have to take my middle finger off the W key while I'm hotkeying, which is a real advantage, if you think about it.

This is my setup:

1 (Sword) - 1
2 (Bow) - V
3 (WaterBucket) - 3
4 (Rod) - Sidebutton, set as H.
5 (GHeads) - F
6 (Gapples) - C
7 (Blocks) - X
8 (Extra lava) - Z
9 (Lava/Fns) - Sidebutton, set as G.

Optifine - R
Toggle perspective - Q
Sprint - LeftCtrl
Sneak - LShift


It's a really great combination of hotkeys, bc you almost never have to let go of your sprint or moving-keys.

I used my rod in 9th slot using mouse side button i didnt really like it as it felt it hindered my aim and clicking. I also used 4 but i feel 2 is most comfortable
