The rod isn't the be all and end all, it's all about strafing and timing if you don't use a rod and a bit of lava is nice of course, also it's quite easy to bow combo people if you play defensively (ie run away from them and turn).
Don't get me wrong, I much prefer to use the rod, but you can definitely achieve 1900+ without a rod if you're smart and accurate enough.

The problem is getting to 1900 without being drained by a rodder, which happened a lot to me. But yeah, you don't really need it if you can use lava and bow :P

Oh, 100%. Honestly to me, it's much more impressive getting 1900 without a rod than 2.1k with a rod in my opinion so kudos to you for being this good!:)

Why not use the rod? It gives you such a big advantage and it's right there in the kit.

For some reason, some "tricks" ,or whatever you want to call them, kinda ruin the fun for me, which is why I don't blockhit, rod, regedit and all that cool stuff most of you do :P.
