And so an ancient, long forgotten mod rises from the ashes to return with some news! Hi Poke/Nerd <3But seriously, as of today OCN (Or Overcast Network for those who don't know. tl;dr is that it's an objectives/team based server that's known for partly inspiring Badlion and being good at tournaments), is discussing the idea of being incorporated into Badlion. Main idea is that it would probably follow a Kohi-esque merge where its gamemodes/staff would be put into Badlion.
https://oc.tc/forums/topics/57843ea467d52262fe00003c
Is this a good idea? Community's opinion so far: (THESE ARE NOT MY OPINIONS)
1. Yes, OCN is dying (which it is) and main way to preserve it is through Badlion. GCheat is great, most of the cons of Badlion are overexaggerated and having 1.7 again would be nice.
2. No, Badlion would ruin OCN's gamemodes by putting them into a bad spot, Badlion is more focused on PotPvP and smaller scale gamemodes. Badlion's KB history has been shaky.
3. Classic reasons (ex. Badlion is laggy, Badlion's toxic, bad management, etc etc.) Thankfully the only popular one here is lag. Didn't include KB here because that's more of a legitimate discussion and not one of these, but I could be wrong.
Posting this info here so Badlion community gets to make their say in the matter, also wanna hear what @Archybot and @MasterGberry have to think. (Sorry for linking you both but you share the server after all, I'm not just giving one of you the final word. If I did Gberry would be too powerful.) I highly suggest reading the thread itself if you want your own view of how OCN's community is viewing it, I'm not perfect and I'm probably just a shitter like I always have been.
Edit: Oh, and since OCN made a strawpoll I'll pull in one for you guys too. http://www.strawpoll.me/10725993

Hey man I'm just repeating the shit I've heard over the years. I haven't been a mod in a year and it's still the same stuff, FeelsBadMan.

Don't take offense to what OCN players say about Badlion and vice-versa. This would be a beneficial merge for both parties regardless.Posted on 11 July 2016 - 10:42 PM
I'm reading over it and it seems like a good portion of the OCN community is for it, it just seems like they want to be separate and keep things like they have them.Anonymous wrote
OCN's staff (or at least the EC's and map devs) should all remain in the same position they are currently in and keep doing what they're doing.
Tournaments would still have to happen every couple of months and with all of OCN's gamemodes (CTW, DTC, TDM, CTF) instead of just TDM and CTF.
OCN's website should remain seperate from badlion's.
OCN's server setup should remain the same (a lobby seperate from badlion's and servers for each gamemode) with the same maps.
If Badlion was to buy OCN, OCN would be integrated into badlion not kept the exact same (I'd assume). I feel that that would be an issue for a large majority of them, as you can see this user pretty much just wants the Badlion logo slapped on OCN, or at least that's the way I'm seeing this.
Opinions?

One thing you need to know about OCN's community: They're stubborn as fuck when it comes to preserving themselves. I can't blame them, it's a good community. If I had to guess most users would want Badlion to take ownership, incorporate as much as possible but leave the gamemodes completely untouched. (Which, in other words means all they want is Badlion to take what OCN has now and just copy/paste.)

The thing is, OCN is incredibly unique and Archy and GBerry definitely understand that and we know this because Archy would not consider a 200 player server good enough to spend time and energy negotiating for unless he felt like it has something completely unique to offer. OCN has a completely unique gamemode system and a very very developed competitive team-based meta - Something thats trying to be achieved by Archy in CTF.
What that means is OCN will keep a lot of its integrity when it comes to gamemodes and maps and the things that make OCN OCN - Because they are the most valuable parts.
Will public servers be removed or reduced? Probably, because the goal is competition. Will the staff team be revamped on OCN's end? I really hope so, because its necessary. Will the name of the server thing be changed because its no longer an individual network? Probably. But the guts and soul of OCN will still be the same so its not even a worry.

I have been an active member of both communities (joined OCN 3 years ago and Badlion over 2). I still read both of the networks' forums daily so I am still pretty up to date with both of their new features and discussions.I would enjoy a merger between the two servers but the major roadblock would be how would the staff teams be integrated or even if that would happen. The two teams have had rocky relations for quite a while. Archy's forum ban on OCN and the GCheat ban of a senior OCN staff member haven't made things easier between the two servers. I won't touch on this that much but that is my main concern.
Archy was a prominent streamer of OCN events and has vast knowledge of their gamemodes. Badlion partially grew out of OCN; many early players were also community members on OCN.
The Badlion administration has proven time and time again that they can run and grow a huge Minecraft server and certainly adding the potential-filled gamemodes of OCN would be a great opportunity for competitive Minecraft.

I suggested this a month ago on someone's thread and some people gave me a +1 and then no one ever really said anything. This would honestly benefit both sides and make OCN team based games great again. Remember how popular OCN was during 1.7? It was the MOST competitive pvp server in minecraft and it was a lot of fun. As soon as it updated to 1.8 it began to fall apart, then 1.9 pretty much just killed it. How would merging fix this? It's simple, badlion runs both 1.7 and 1.9 so it could keep the new OCN gameplay and bring back the competitive 1.7 team games that everyone loved. Think about it, at one point or another you have probably played OCN. I used to play it non stop and it was a ton of fun, it needs to be revived and played again. Team based strategy/objective games should be the center of minecraft pvp, not sweaty 1v1s. Hopefully if OCN merged into badlion it would bring in the best OCN maps and gamemodes (CTW,TDM,etc.) (Blocks DTC, The Nile, Race for Victory I,II,III etc.) and add in some aspects of badlion like the rod and maybe some gamemodes could have natural regen off like UHC. This is something that needs to happen to revive team based fights and keep what was the best pvp server alive. + fucking 1Posted on 11 July 2016 - 10:57 PM

I personally don't see what OCN has that would help Badlion. Like the only thing they have is bootstrap.Posted on 11 July 2016 - 11:30 PM

A merge would be extremely beneficial to OCN, and I'd honestly be surprised if they were offered that option if ever approached by Badlion. Any sensible player should be able to understand that Overcast is no longer in a position to negotiate; player counts have drastically decreased in the past year, and they're not receiving enough new players to keep their playerbase steady. What's left of the server is a collection of sink-with-the-ship loyalists who—for the most part—deny that the server's dying. A merge is too generous an offer for such a server; what would Badlion get out of it? The best option for Badlion (and consequently for OCN) is to buy them out and use PGM as they please—you'll see old gamemodes brought back to life along with a new community to get involved with them.Posted on 12 July 2016 - 09:38 AM

Im an ocn player (badlion too lol) but basically I would really like the idea, It would be cool to see these gamemodes on badlion and it might bring more players to ocn which would be cool.

As long as OCN is kept as it is - No adding rods, or shit like that
