Special Developer Log #4 - Moving away from ELO and S13
If you can't see where you are (and exactly what you need to do to get where you want to be) then what's the point of tryharding? It's like you're climbing a mountain and you can see everyone above you. Now you're trying to reach them, but you can't tell how far above you these people are or how they got that far, and you can't even tell how you might catch up with them. You just keep trying to get higher, but without any feedback on how it's going it all seems pointless.

The beauty is you always know exactly how far you are from your target, and you know precisely what you need to do to get there.

Guy2 just has to keep winning matches until he passes Guy1
In the server there's a hidden elo number so Guy2 could technically be higher than Guy1 if he just keeps on winning

Very true, but there still is a point, because as you know, there is a hidden elo. And you keep on tryharding to win, and to gain elo to level up and gain a higher place on the leaderboards. It's pretty much season 12, but you can't see your elo, and you don't get easily drained.

Then why'd you quote my post.. And Archy repeated multiple times that he wasn't going to change it. It's getting annoying how people are complaining every single minute about something they have NO choice over. The system that Archy implemented is going to be here for a long time, and you're just gonna have to get used to it. Sorry for being a dick.
Everyone who plays on this server has some voice in what happens on it. Archy and Gberry get the final say on everything, but they value the feedback of the community. If the majority doesn't like it they will change it back. I can't unilaterally change anything, but all our opinions matter. And that definitely includes you.

I am sad that elo is gone. I think elo is better than this, but I guess we have to see how S13 goes and if they will change back in S14. I think elo was a good rating system and this is isn't the best… I guess it's a PRACTICE server and not a gamemode, but I feel like people will be angered a lot over this change. Let's see how it goes…….

I don't play any competitive games where they determine leaderboard rankings but how would those be determined with the new ranking system? You said that Masters is the highest rank with no divisions so what decides who gets put higher up on the leaderboard?

All of that is 100% true. But they won't always do everything the community wants. It's true that everyone's opinions matter but they won't always make a difference.

TBH, I never minded the fact that sometimes my Elo would fluctuate by 100-200 a day. lol

So are ELO and the new rankings completely incomparable? Like there's no Bronze V = 1300, Silver I = 1900, etc?
What's the point of showing the player how much they win or lose in a match, if you wanna move away from a numerical system, why not completely hide it from the user?

My only thing is that I think it could still say a specific rating. Don't get me wrong, I love this system. It sounds like a much more effective system than elo, but I still want to hit milestones like 1700 or 1600. Idk, it just feels wrong having the csgo ratings.
The elo inefficiency doesn't mean we can't have a number to rate us.

Pretty interesting system, it would be very hard to move on from elo but I guess you'll never know if you never try so lets give it a chance guys.

There is still hidden numbers that would decide who is the highest player within the masters rank.

Good point and thanks for supporting your argument rather than in your previous posts where you pretty much just raged >.>

People are probably going to end up figuring out the distance between leagues/divisions (Silver IV vs. Silver III) soon and at the moment after each match you know how much rating you won/lost. Regardless, the benefits outweigh the negatives.

Bronze, Silver, Gold, Emerald, Diamond, and Masters?

Come on, sounds kind of iffy to me. I suggest

1) Bronze, Silver? No such resource in minecraft :>
2) Masters? Sounds meh to me
3) Isn't emerald > diamond? It's supposed to be rarer…

If you are going with the emerald and diamond ranks (aka minecraft minerals), why don't you go with them all the way?
If you go with CSGO ranks (silver), why don't you go with them all the way?

My suggestion:

Stone, Iron, Gold, Diamond, Emerald, Masters (I don't quite like "Masters" but I don't have a better idea)

It kind of makes sense - that goes pretty much in the order you find and "upgrade" to minerals (except gold but still gold belongs in the middle there since you need iron to mine it)

Also, you could add a rank called "Dirt" for really bad players :>
