Sure haven't had time to cover the whole thread. The skill gap between ranks is going to be a bell curve similar to how ELO already is. The bell curve will be more smooth. As per most games and ours as well based on initial calculations the % of players in each tier would be as follows:

Masters: ~0.00005%
Diamond: ~1%
Emerald: 4%
Gold: 14%
Silver: 42%
Bronze: 39%

(This is just the tiers)

We imagine the actual #s will be a bit different based on some factors such as the new matchmaking system etc.

To give some further graphics showing how the distribution of skill is currently vs the new system:

Red = ELO
Green = New MMR System

The left axis (Vertical) is the number of players.
The bottom axis (Horizontal) is the rating of the player.

As you can see the new system has a much better distribution of players unlike ELO which has a clusterfuck around the middle of the rating system.

The ratings are broken into equal distributions and we are going to limit matchmaking (I believe) to only allow 1 tier difference (e.g. Bronze V vs Silver I at worst case [might even be more strict on this]). If you are a tier difference than there is already a huge rating gap and you are considered a clear underdog. If you are a bronze V fighting a bronze III you are a slight underdog but not terribly (imagine 100 elo difference [not accurate/reflective of the real data]). For the most part you should be more concerned about where you are and your own ranking than the people's around you.

The amount of rating you gain/lose is dependent on several factors which are too complicated/confidential to get into. No point in showing who is the "underdog" and what not. You are either in it to win it or you aren't. It's that simple.

Hope this brings some clarity to the thread.
wait for there to even be a top .00005%, you'd need 1/.0000005=2,000,000 players in a ladder (Build last season had ~460k), and even then, only the #1 person would be masters. Is Masters rank really that rare?

Masters rank was given room for people to grow into, and more should be masters this season since better matchmaking/larger matchmaking pool

I was wondering. If there was Elo. What would the masters rank be like, if you were using the Elos again.

The second option is how it works.

If you're Gold 4, you will probably be able to duel anyone from Silver 4 through Emerald 4.

Oh. I misunderstood. I thought you only dueled people from Silver 4 and Emerald 4, not Silver 1-4, Gold -5, and Emerald 1-4. Thank you.

The ELO system is dumb. If Badlion wanted to change their system, which was fine, then if anything do a kill:death ratio. Its absolutely dumb and 90% of the community doesnt even like season 13.

What would be nice is to know what each rank is about in terms of ELO. If I face a gold 1, I have to pvp differently to beat them, but to know how I need to pvp (defensive or offensive) I need to know elo. Will there ever be a chart labeling what every rank is in terms of elo?

It's almost impossible to matchmake using KDR. Pitting players with a similar KDR together will only reduce their KDR in the long run.

KDR also doesn't do a good job of tracking someone's skill over time. Someone who starts with a 1:1 KDR may eventually hit the skill level where they can maintain 10:1, but it would be extremely difficult for them to achieve a 10:1 if their KDR has been so heavily skewed by previous fights with their previous skill level(s).
