Go name a major well known and popular competitive game, besides DotA, that uses pure numbers. If you can match my list of games that don't, then we will consider bringing ELO back. Here's my 20 second list of games that don't use numbers
Heroes
League of Legends
Overwatch
CSGO (both ESEA and Valve Matchmaking)
SC2
Call of Duty
Rainbow Siege Six
Hearthstone
Here's my 20 second list of games that use pure numbers (none of which are ELO)
World of Warcraft
DotA2
These gaming companies take months to get their custom rating system right. We did ELO originally because it was simplistic, but had huge flaws. Our current system has flaws here and there that will be fixed and are being fixed in the background, but not enough people tested S13 like we asked for these flaws to be exposed.
The real reason you guys want ELO is because players don't like change. Every company we spoke to (not just ESL) said pure number (especially ELO) were basically bad and should be removed if you want to push forward competition. They also all said there will be community outrage too, saying numbers are good and must be needed.

I cant name any games which use ELO because I dont play that much games, but for those I do they dont use it. Badlion brought this to minecraft and thats how its known, as a competitive pvp server with ELO, we arent crying because we dont want a change, we are crying because the change you gave us is worse than ELO in *OUR* opinion, which if you ask me matters if you are running a huge network like this, opinions from the players, you guys might think rankings are better and make more sense but who will be here to play on your better system if the playerbase which wants ELO goes away(and from what I see on player numbers on badlion its going down)
The games which use these rankings used the from the start Im pretty sure, and they havent experienced a huge change in the system from what the playerbase/community liked to something that the playerbase of the game/server doesnt like, anyways I am hoping not to get banned from responding to this.

Archy lol the ranking has nothing to do with being better for the server, its for ur partnerships, and they want rankings just like any other game like csgo. You don't realize by the end of these bad changes, you won't have anyone to participate in your "competitive minecraft Esports." there is like 5% of badlion who actually enjoys this retarded season, and the other 95% think it is an udder mistake. Why don't you and gberry understand that this is not what is going to keep your player base growing, how is minecraft going to be an esl, if you don't have near as enough people as it should? Minecraft can't be an "esl" if it only has a thousand or so people playing it, it just won't happen.Posted on 04 August 2016 - 04:07 PM
@Archybot Also we all know its just a prank, lets go back to s12 we know s13 was just a joke man you got us all.Posted on 04 August 2016 - 04:09 PM

Not to be rude but isn't badlion built off of the community so shouldn't decisions be made by the community? If people really don't enjoy playing with the new system and it has been expressed by the people on this thread why should the administration team keep pressing the same points that the new system is better?

I am gonna just write a short essay in response, this is too long and too repetitive for me to spend more time repeating what has already been said publically.
Chess =/= Minecraft. Minecraft matches are very fast. People play 1000s of matches of Minecraft in a season. Chess games are very long and you have the opponent in front of you quite often. There is also no way to cheat in chess. ELO does not make sense for video games that are on a large scale. Since most people here are probably un-educated: Badlion is the one that brought ELO to Minecraft. We are the original creators of any form of a skill based ranking system in Minecraft. We are always going to do what is best to create a competitive and community friendly environment at the same time. A number that people obsess over is not the way to do it. Who defines what is good and bad in ELO? Suddenly being a certain number in ELO at one ladder and not another makes a difference to how things are calculated. It is not the communities responsibility to determine who is good and who is bad in terms of skill level. It is ours. ELO does not provide this. Go look at Season 1 and now go look at Season 12. 1000 ELO difference. Not a good skill based system at all. Danteh is not 1000 ELO better than HattoWolf was back in the day. ELO cannot be translated to skill. I have 100 ELO more than this person, therefore I am 100x better than him. It just means you have a number that is 100 higher, but it cannot actually be converted to a skill level system. I am Diamond 1 vs my Platinum 3 friend. This has a comparison of skill since it is a better measurement of skill for someone who does not understand anything about ELO or the Badlion community. "Oh I a tier (Diamond vs Platinum) higher than my friend and I am also two divisions (1 vs 3) higher than my friend." In addition we are the ones determine the various skill levels and will have public information about the skill levels (e.g. Diamond being top 2%) and such. There is absolutely no benefit to ELO over our new system besides people just being stubborn people and believing that ELO is the best thing in the world, when the reality is you should be bitching about (1) the placement matches [already being fixed] and (2) the matchmaker [already also being fixed]. I made it very clear in this post: https://www.badlion.net/forum/thread/129730 that the real problems are being worked on and not the "fake problems" that the community thinks are the issues when in reality they aren't. The new ranking system helps to fix things that ELO does not account for such as winning/losing streaks, not punishing severely for messing up one match, etc. The reason the MMR system we are using was created was to fix the problems that ELO cannot properly handle or solve. Overall the new rating system provides a more user friendly environment rather than obsessing over a number that doesn't really mean much to the new coming players. As I stated earlier, we are the ones that brought ELO to Minecraft, we are now going to be the ones to bring in a new ranking system into it as well that does a better job than ELO.
From what we are seeing publicly people are satisfied with the KB changes made a few days ago. The number of complaints have dropped significantly about the knockback and the gameplay so your #3 doesn't belong in this thread.
As far as chronic cheaters we have some upcoming changes to the ban system and the appeal system that will be cracking down on people cheating harder very soon. People are going to find out very fast that if you are going to (1) ruin the experience of others and (2) waste our time to track you down that all of your accounts will be locked out and a blanket IP ban will be issued very fast.
As far as SG 2.0 maps go they are going to be randomly picked when u join the queue instead of voting for them. That will solve that issue.
We are always hard at work here at Badlion trying to make things the best we can. As explained in the post I linked above there has been a lot of work going on in the background too and I have four developers dedicated to fixing up ArenaPvP Season 13 still at the moment so we can get it all in the 110% state that it should be. I have other things that need to be worried about too and I am dedicating so many of our resources at the moment to ensure that Season 13 is fixed so that we can get back to our 7-8k peaks and eventually grow further. I guarantee by the end of this month at the latest Badlion will be at it's best again rather than the state it is now.
1) Will there be an another stats reset (from what i've heard the badlion dev team fixed a lots of bugs in the recent time)
2) This is more like a suggestion; I think you shouldn't lose raiting when you die to a user who is not qualified
3) If you are similar raiting to a cheater and if you are playing ladders like diamond, vanilla, ironsoup you always queue that same cheater, will there be a soulution for that?

There's not a single -1 and the only 2 people who don't want elo back is the two and only owners of badlion GGPosted on 04 August 2016 - 04:14 PM
"Go name a major well known and popular competitive game, besides DotA, that uses pure numbers. This isn't about your little stupid idea of what YOU think is better, the point is you're a bad server owner for neglecting over 95% of the server of the Badlion they want. Literally every 10 minutes there are people complaining about how bad Season 13 is. If you wanted to make an April Fools joke, it's called April Fools for a reason. The date is 4/1/2016 for April Fools, so cancel your memes until then. Thank you.

the rank system would be ok if it was when you reach a certain elo you get a rank and your elo was visible. really not a big fan of this rating system, after an archer match the guy that beat me gained 12 rating and i lost 26, so pretty much 14 rating is unnecessarily wasted.Posted on 04 August 2016 - 04:14 PM

Dude you don't know that much about what you are talking about XD there is no way to fix that hacker thing, and how tf are people supposed to gain elo to their rankings when people are qualifying, that is your problem that you can't win people who aren't ranked.
Posted on 04 August 2016 - 04:15 PM
And, if people are higher rating than you, when they aren't qualified they drain less elo, so I don't understand your point gg (get good)Last edited on 04 August 2016 - 04:19 PM by Archybot

If your only reason is to keep ELO is because that was the original system, then that is a really poor excuse. The playerbase hates change, but then bitches when we don't change stuff. And actually, you're wrong. The largest game in the world - League of Legends, went from pure numbers to their current system of hiding numbers behind basically the same exact system we currently have here.
The problems isn't our ranking system, it's our queuing system and the fact that placements are spreading players too thin, both of which will be fixed.
Our player count is also not dropping from our "playerbase hatred of the rating system" as we are seeing the same percentage drop across the network across all gamemodes. Our player count is dropping because
1. People are returning to school/going on their last minute vacations
2. OVH has been very unstable (there have been 5 OVH drops in the last 24 hours)
3. Minecraft in general is falling in popularity across all servers (we are staying in the same exact position on MC leaderboards by numbers compared to other servers) due to games like overwatch
4. As we improve GCheat, we ban more and more of our playerbase. Before JD7, it was about 18% of our players were banned, now it's 26% - We banned over 50% of the active kohi playerbase.
5. Some of the gamemodes, such as LMS, UHC Meetup, wars, some of the FFAS, events, etc aren't fully functional and there goes about 1-1.5k players during peak which will return once they are up.
6. Lastly, the only one that relates to the rating system - It is currently too easy to rank up on the leaderboards due to placements being too exact, IE danteh got to #1 (if you remove the banned players) in build in 20 matches instead of 300.
Our daily unique player counts for NA/SA/AU are actually up, and our EU have dropped by like 5-10% - it's just people are spending less time on the network because they don't need to spend

Thats such bs LOL people are not just leaving to those reasons. Lets be honest people return a day later after they say they "quit" and all those other reasons are so retarded LOL. So minecraft is at a really bad state right now to your knowledge, but do you guys benefit the cause 100% not ROFL. You and gberry are the most stubborn server owners ever, you guys are so ignorant towards other people's opinions. DO YOU THINK PEOPLE ARE HAPPY RN BECAUSE OF YOUR DECISIONS, DO YOU THINK THAT YOUR NEW FEATURES TO THE SERVER ARE MAKING YOUR PLAYERS HAPPY, BECAUSE APPARENTLY YOU GUYS DO AND YOU STILL CAN'T COMPREHEND THAT 90% OF YORU SERVER HATES YOU.

Sad thing is that they are saying that people are going back to school and thats the reason that player count dropped, badlion peaked 10k+ players in season 10 and 11, which were winter and spring, which is in the middle of the school year, and thats clearly harder/more time consuming than the start of school, makes no sense that badlion has way less players now??
