I've been a UHC/SG pvper pretty much since I started playing pvp in Minecraft. Just recently, I decided to stop procrastinating and start getting good at Potion-style pvp, and it's not going too badly so far. I ended up turning down my mouse sensitivity by 800 DPI, lol.I do have one question, though. In a GApple match, if you get outhit and your helmet breaks first, how do you strategically come back? I'm not interested in "just hit the other player more to get the hits back" and other smart comments - I want to know about armor conservation and other methods like that.
Is there anyone who knows what I'm talking about and can help me out?

1. Blockhit, it will save armour durability, let you longer without your helmet/boots, and is an alternative to w-tapping2. Start to get a bit unpredictable with your strafing, you can turn the tide and start a combo
3. Maybe start to take your helmet off for a few hits at the start of a match so you have more of a buffer to work with

Even though my stats show that I'm aids at gapple I've actually gotten super super good at itWhen you conserve, you obviously take more damage, so play it safe with the gapple timings and make sure the other piece of armor (helm or boots) doesn't break and you leave it unreplaced or else gg
Also conserving throws off the whole armor cycle do you have to rely on quick reactions to replace not pattern remembering

Anyways so since im decent at gapple (Beat a few top 10 players) and when i get outhit and take off my boots for 15 seconds and then put it back and take off my helmet and put it back after 15 seconds and in these 30 seconds/one gap i pretty much try very hard to even out the hits again.
Its 8am have not slept so if this a aids explaination sorry (PM for a better explanation :D)

Note: ONLY do this on your second armor set.Take off your boots for a while,
then take off your helm (or vice-versa) and continue that until your armor is about 50 dura each

I greatly appreciate all of your answers, thanks.Posted on 06 September 2016 - 01:08 AM
GApple is a very long match and its very hard to regain ground once your losing, if I'm losing then I will usually try faking by taking my helmet off or replacing it early and back again so the other person thinks they are losing, I never let the opponent see my helm break if I think I'm losing, then hopefully they do some stupid shit like take their boots off and I quickdrop them.Posted on 06 September 2016 - 02:04 AM
The idea with gapple when you are fighting someone either better than you or very even with you is to be 1. Safe 2. Smart. This doesn't mean you need to run away and do quick turn combos (because you never get better doing this). Let me break down how (in gapple) you can possibly turn a fight around:OPTION ONE: Give him the shlong – this is if you find yourself adjusting to your opponents play style and you are out hitting him like crazy
OPTION TWO: Smart Armor – this is if you are truly losing…
Once your helmet pops, if you are trading hits, you want to start Blockhitting-wa-dw/da-wa tapping your opponent into a combo. I have found that this is (for me) the most effective way to get 1. A comeback combo if you are down a little 2. A large gap between yourself and your opponent. After a quick combo, I normally turn, run, and re gap. Basically, the theory is that if you blockhit the majority of your opponents hits during quick trades (never do long trades without helmet), you can survive without your helmet. Now when to switch? If you don't find yourself getting completely shlonged, the ideal time to put on your helmet is after your boots break and before your legs and chest pop. This is all preparation for the end when your final pieces are breaking. This way, at the end, your opponents helmet will pop before yours, and you can try to quickdroo him with a combo of trades. The idea behind this whole strategy is to maximize your survival to increase the window during which you can actually pop your opponent (and increase window for potential comeback).
A few notes: if you are in a blockhit trade and your helmet is popped and the trade is more than 3-4 hits and his helmet pops, put your helmet on and either try to maneuver for a quick a-d-a or d-a-d into a blockhit to drop him. Most noobs will either drop here or give you enough hits to comeback. In this situation, you can also try to double w tap - jump crit into a combo since inexperienced players will take longer to hotkey their helm on and panic or just no realize ttheir helmet popped and drop. Also, if you are mid trade and in the air when your helmet pops, you kinda have to put it back on, but you can then continue trading until you need to gap and then take your helmet off.
There are a lot more strategies that are really situational, but I hope this helps.
DISCLAIMER: I suck at gapple. The only time I really played gapple was when I used to play cannoning factions.

all you need is aim and know how to save armor dura that is it.Posted on 06 September 2016 - 01:48 PM
all gapple is about imo is being able to evenly trade hits with ur opponent and the ability to land 2or 3 decent combos, however if ur losing take off ur helmet (this is 2nd set btw) and if ur opponenet does then crit them so they have to run away to regen, then try 1.7 them to get back a few hits.Posted on 06 September 2016 - 02:09 PM
I don't play competitively, but surely waiting as long as possible before replacing armour pieces when they break will lead to being able to take more hits.Because of this logic I only replace helmet when my boots go.
