Completely agreed. It's more fun to brag about being gold in Minecraft to your league friends instead of saying "1800 in build" and then having to explain what the elo system is.
In addition, I feel like the new system makes people better. I lose a lot more in ranked than I used to, and it's simply because I'm not fighting 1400's anymore. This system makes you a better player overall.

I can't explain a giant difference in MMR to ELO, and the only thing I'm able to say/going to say is that MMR seems to better place players.Posted on 10 October 2016 - 09:39 PM

exactly my thoughts. I think mmr is extremely complex when broken down which honestly just creates distaste for a large margin of the community. I think taking the hybrid approach was a step in the right direction in transitioning to a full mmr system (like s13). I just think at the time of s13 release the community wasn't ready for such a drastic change.

It's a shame that people complained so much about the season 13 system. I don't mind S14 MMR, it just doesn't have as much of a benefit when you beat people higher than you. Last season in 21 games I got emerald in archer, but this time around in 21 matches that would be impossible. You can't please everyone though, the change had to be made because of the complaints realistically.

You always are very analytical, I'm only beginning to notice it now after it was pointed out.
(not taking a dig at you Unwise, I totally agree, just find that interesting)

S14 MMR isn't pure MMR, it's a ELO/MMR hybrid that I personally designed to appease the non-stop fucking complaining/entitlement of this community. It has low placements, high grind just like ELO, but it's still better at showing skill. The same bellcurve exists in S14 as it did in S13, it just takes a lot longer to reach where you belong in S14 because you guys wanted to grind (same maxes in almost all ladders in S13/14). It's still faster to get to where you belong compared to ELO. When compared to ELO, my system requires the same amount of equal-skill matches to go up a "tier", but more to fall down a tier. Also at worst case scenario it's 2x less grind per loss at high grind. There is no hacker forgiveness in this system anymore, because it doesn't work with this system.
So why is this system better then pure ELO?
1. A little less grind at the start
2. 50% less punishment for losing a single game at high levels to a lowbie
3. You can gain points fighting anyone, not just someone within 700 of you
4. Nothing is worse in my hybrid system then in ELO, only better or the same
I like you archybot. Always very blunt as am i. Not enough blunt people these days because people are too fragile

uh yes it is, we already covered that the mmr system and the matchmaking system are two different unrelated things, and that the awful matchmaking was coincidentally paired with a good mmr, which made people think it was awful when it wasnt. youre staff? this is why we cant have nice things.

Opinions still need some basis in reality. I can say that it's my opinion that Badlion's Asian servers are still open, but I can't back that up with anything because it's not true.

Mhm. I think with the pure MMR only the BuildUHC ladder worked well as like MasterGberry said players dont want to wait too long for a 1-5 minute match.
And hasn't MMR a lot to do with the matchmaking?
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm an UHC Mod. So talking about Arena I know as much as a normal player.
