How about less arrows (only like 48) but then you can pick up arrows kinda like how you could for the start of S13

I honestly think 32 would be fit for that. Most of the arrows miss and it makes using arrows more scarce because you end up having to worry about your opponent getting the arrows. And 48 arrows would be a lot, that means 96 hits, because when you miss you pick them up. That's ~64 hearts (it does between 0.5 and 1 heart per full charge) of damage just from the arrows. Distributed among both of the players, it's 32 hearts which is equivalent to 8 Golden Apples or a little over 5 heads.

I wouldn't personally suggest the addition of the ability to pick up arrows, however I'd certainly trade that feature if it warranted a nerf to the current arrow quantity.

in a normal build uhc fight, i never go past 32 arrows unless the other player is trying to be annoying, or is desperate to cling to life. a normal build player does not need over 32 arrows to win a match, (not even 16 really) so no harm should come to lowering the arrow count. it would only make the majority happy.

So, I'd just like to thank you for keeping this argument polite and thoughtful. I personally have some strong reservations about this, as someone who thinks bowing is fine, but I can respect you for being one of the few mature people I've seen touch on this.

Personally, while I am at the weakest I've been in a very long time (Managed to get drained to Silver II on archer to my eternal shame >_<) I've always preferred the bow to melee, simply because it is a skill and strategy based system that is readily understandable. (In other words, I can always see what I failed at in a bow fight, whereas sometimes melee just looks like black internet magic :P )

I myself hate Minecraft's melee system, and feel it is influenced too much by factors that should not be part of the game. (Ping, FPS, CPS. I'm on a laptop with joint issues, so I'm really biased here.) (I.e. I had a lesson on how to watch an opponent's head while melee strafing to avoid hits/combo them, then realized that a third of the time or so, the head doesn't update until after he's hit me. Not sure if that's an FPS or ping issue, but yay.)

I understand not everyone prefers this.

My thought is, due to the healing, projectile protection, and blocks, bows are already somewhat strongly nerfed in Build. You can hit all 64 arrows fully charged, and not kill someone in theory. (And hitting an entire stack on a skilled player is inhumanely good.) This means you cannot get anywhere in Build without having at least some skill in melee. Bows are a supplement as it is. If it is nerfed, it would be almost irrelevant, which is unfair to those of us who prefer a bow fight.

I'm willing to see the number of arrows lowered, but I would like the proj prot lowered or removed to correspond. I would even prefer this, as it would make aim and skill more relevant over number of arrows fired. That said, I do not want to see Build turned into a pure melee ladder. There are already a substantial number of those.

Here's what I think:

Personally, I love using bow. I guess you could say I am one of those pesky silver 1's who use up all their arrows and spam lava on the ground. I would be fine with only providing 1 lava bucket, as sometimes it can throw me off, but the amount of arrows is perfectly fine. The thing is, I'm not that good at melee, I'm not a fan of ladders like Gapple, SG, etc. because it's just not fun for me and hurts my finger. With build, it hits a sweet spot for me. Sure, melee will do more damage than a bow, but the option of bow is still viable. There are quite a few ways you can get an advantage with the bow, chipping off absorption, doing damage at low health, just to name a few. If the amount of arrows is decreased to 32, then those options just aren't as viable, and while you can still use said strategies, you get almost no room for error. Only those who are really good at bow and can hit almost every shot will be able to actually do something.

If an arrow reduction happens, at least let us pick up arrows. Even though arrows are still scarce, you can still be strategic on whether or not you should pick up nearby arrows. Just reducing them altogether will make build much less enjoyable to me, it's already a popular and good all around ladder, why change it? I know you are going to tell me "Just play Archer, UHC, or Iron" but like no one plays those ladders. It's already like 60% melee and 40% bow, rarely will you kill someone with a bow unless you melee'd them down to low health and get them while they are running away.

I used to be against this but at this point people are quitting because of how aids build is now. I can't go a fight without my opponent walling up, lava spamming, and bow spamming. I'm not going to sit there and bow back, that is boring. That is what Iron OCN, Archer, and UHC are for. You have top players like Tylarzz and Danteh pointing out the sweaty play styles of literally everyone on the server. Tylarzz posted on Twitter that he thinks the kit should be changed to have 32 Arrows, 1 Lava bucket, and 1 Stack of blocks. I couldn't agree more. Back in s12 a change like this would've been pretty pointless and stupid in my opinion, but based on the way people have started playing now it seems like the best change that could happen. Does anyone who argues for 64 arrows actually have fun sitting there and bowing for 10 minutes? Because I certainly prefer 1-3 minute sword fights over 10 minute split camp fights. And that's why I'm giving this thread a +2
