Not sure if it still used in other communities, but I haven't seen "rekt" on badlion in forever, I think the filter genuinely stopped a lot of people from saying it. Hypixel's chat would be a lot worse if it had no filter. Compare old kohi's chat to badlion's chat of the same time and you can see that Badlion's chat was so much nicer than kohi's due to a combination of the filter and punishment system.
It will never get rid of the problem but it could help somewhat

NGL this might actually increase toxicity, although it's unnaccetable to tell players to "kill yourself," or "drink bleach," people get agitated over the game for whatever reason and they use chat to let off steam a bit, they then get punished (hopefully) and then (hopefully) learn that it's better for everyone if they controlled their temper. Eventually after going through this cycle the player should mature and become an asset to a community. By not letting some people let off their steam it would most certainly cause more forums, twitter, discord etc problems.-1 from me
I guess that I will add that in some aspects it depends on how the owners want chat to be like, I personally don't like extremely strict chat rules especially not in a competitive server but it's all down to opinion I guess.

Bypassing is so easy. For example if you write "k … y__s" it won't filter it.-1

Imo if you want to foolproof common bypasses, you get together a group of toxic players and tell them to think of bypasses, then add them. It would definitely lighten the load on reports and mods.
