Hello Minecraft gamers! Today we are announcing the next step that Badlion is making to continue to improve competitive Minecraft! We are proud to present the Badlion Diamond Series! The Badlion Diamond Series contains 3 qualifier tournaments along with a special invitational tournament for the top 8 teams in the qualifier tournaments. More information about how each tournament works is below.
All of the tournaments below are 5v5 formats. Each team is allowed 5 main players and up to 4 subs. More information will be available in the specific announcements for each tournament.
Qualifier #1 - Capture The Flag Tournament - $1000 cash prize - September 2nd
Already announced as one of the Badlion Summer tournaments, the Capture the Flag Tournament will be the first qualifier tournament for the Badlion Diamond Series. Capture the Flag is the classic 2 flag gamemode where you must take the enemy flag and bring it back to your base, while at the same time defending your own flag.
You can read more about the CTF tournament which is already opened for signups here: https://www.badlion.net/forum/thread/184836
Qualifier #2 - Capture The Wool Tournament - $1000 cash prize - September 30th
Capture the Wool is a heavy team/strategy based game. Each team has some wools hidden on the map that they need to protect. Users must then try to capture the other team's wools while defending their own. You can build in Capture the Wool and mine blocks. Use special blocks on the map to create armor and other tools for yourself. We have plans to give some quality of life updates to CTW in the next few weeks, some new maps, and finalize the gamemode and bring it out of beta.
You can read more about the CTW tournament which is already opened for signups here: https://www.badlion.net/forum/thread/188690
Qualifier #3 - Domination Tournament (New Gamemode) - $1000 cash prize - October 21st
The third qualifier tournament is our newest planned gamemode for Badlion. Domination! This is a very simple King Of The Hill styled game mode. There are a total of three hills on each map which will help your team to earn points. In order to score points, you must control at least two of the hills. The game ends when the point cap is reached by a team. This gamemode is aimed to continue to improve competitive 5v5 gameplay.
This gamemode is not yet available on Badlion, but we have plans to release it into beta during September. Signups for this tournament are not yet available either, and will be available at a later date.
Badlion Diamond Series Invitational Tournament - $5000 cash prize - November 11th
The final tournament in the Badlion Diamond Series is a special invitational tournament. We will be inviting the top 2 teams (1st and 2nd place) from each of three qualifier tournaments mentioned earlier and then also reserving 2 spots to invite 2 other specially selected teams.
If a single team places in the top 2 multiple (1st or 2nd place) times we will then shift down the position to 3rd place, 4th place, etc if needed to pick out the qualifying teams.
The invitational tournament will have best of three rounds with the three gamemodes above, CTF, CTW & Domination. Once again more information will be made available at a later date closer to this special tournament.
Why are we putting aside specially 2 spots for selected teams?
It's a very common practice in esports to put aside slots for specially designated teams. Sometimes a team might play extremely well in the tournament but then got knocked out by one of the winning teams in an early stage. We want to ensure that this final tournament for the Badlion Diamond Series is action packed with esports level 5v5 content. We want the best of the best to be participating in this final tournament and for everyone to have fun participating, and just as much fun for the people who are back home watching.
All Tournaments will required the Badlion Client
All of the tournaments will be requiring usage of the Badlion Client. We will be pushing out a 1.2 update for the Badlion Client before the first tournament takes place. This client update will have a lot of bug fixes and much requested features by the community.
For those of you who do not know what the Badlion Client is, it's our Minecraft client side anticheat, backed with technology from ESEA and ESL. This helps keep the cheaters out and fair gameplay in. Our server side anticheat was not able to catch all cheats used in the last cash prize tournament we held, while the Badlion Client was able to detect low level cheats.
You can learn more about the Badlion Client at https://www.badlion.net/client
How signups and team formats will work
All signups will take place on specially designated forum posts unless we announce otherwise. The first of these tournament info posts with a link for signups inside for the CTF tournament can be found here: https://www.badlion.net/forum/thread/184836
We will be allowing a team of 5 players + 4 subs for these tournaments (one more sub than before). Also anyone is able to participate in these tournaments, even banned players on Badlion (for game cheating related offenses [even IP banned players]). The only people who are NOT allowed to participate are the people who have been banned by BAC (Badlion Anticheat on the Badlion Client).
Qualified Teams's participating players will be locked for all remaining tournaments in the Badlion Diamond Series
Any players who participate in the tournament and are on a qualifying team will be locked into their team for the duration of the Badlion Diamond Series. For instance, if Players 1-9 are on a Team ABC, and players 1,2,3,4,7,8,9 participate, then they are locked onto Team ABC for the rest of the Badlion Diamond Series. Player's 5 and 6 though are not locked to Team ABC and can either be kept on the roster or removed for the following tournament.
Any other team who does not qualify is not affected by this system explained above. You may swap roster spots as much as you please. Only teams that win one of the qualifying slots will have the players who participated in that tournament locked in.
Conclusion
We are super excited about creating some awesome esports like Minecraft content as a community. I hope all of you are excited and are starting to put together your teams as soon as you can.
Based on how this series of tournaments goes we will then plan what we think the community wants as the next steps for Badlion's competitive Minecraft scene are. We are always listening to you guys, make sure to keep sharing your opinions with us.
Let us know what you think before and how we can make this series of tournaments as exciting for everyone as possible. We are also looking for talent in the community who has a passion for esports and wants to help livestream the event with our tournament team.

Is this a mistake? Since the CTW tournament had also this roster size setup and the last BuildUHC one had 5 players and 2 subs. Or does it mean there will be 5 subs?

I really hope these are all hosted as professional as possible, with official commentators and such!Posted on 23 August 2017 - 03:21 PM

Im still concerned if everyone will be able to run BAC when 1.2 comes out but we'll see…Anyway if you want to make the tournament interesting to watch , please add like a first person feature that allows you to see exactly what the players see and instant game replays like on every other esport out there

There are 4 tournaments and the largest competitive playerbase is now clearly on EU. It would appear fair to have at least one tournament on the EU proxy.
Already had this discussion on the Arena 5v5 tourney thread, and Varicks ended it this way : https://www.badlion.net/forum/thread/180774/post/1008395#1008395.

BLC 1.2 patch has huge things coming in it, and a total rework without the premium stuff so it'll be very interesting patch. 1.2 is more like 2.0.

Can you specify how exactly the positions will be shifted down if a team reachs multiple times the top 2. Will the 3rd place from the first or from the second tourney receive their spot? A detailed explanation how the shifting is going to work would be nice. This would also prevent people from calling bias.
This brings me to my second point: "It's a very common practice in esports to put aside slots for specially designated teams." It looks like this could be extremely biased. Can you give an example for where this is done in e-sports? The really competetive and official tourneys only have teams in them who qualified for them and they don't give free spots to teams just because they had bad luck in the qualifiers.

If team A wins Tournament 1 and then wins tournament 2, the 3rd place team of tournament 2 would take the second place and the team that finished second in the second tournament would take first seed instead of the team that already qualified from tournament one.

Is there a difference if team A wins both tournaments or if it only wins one tournament and gets 2nd in the other?
What happens if the 3rd place from tournament 2 is already qualified because they got 2nd in the first tournament? Would the fourth from tourney 2 or the 3rd from tournament 1 receive the spot?

I might have overlooked this but is there any particular seeding system or completely random for all gamemodes?
