+1 Never played SG competitively but from the clan war videos I have seen, they seem very competitive and would be a good addition to badlionPosted on 04 September 2017 - 04:26 PM
The SG community was huge for a reason, this is definitely something that can increase Badlion's player count. The small servers that pop up as Zaq mentioned can be fun at times, but it would be awesome if Badlion proposes something consistent towards to SG Clan community.

I agree with everything and think this is an amazing idea. Except the only thing that I dislike would be adding Chernobyl.Posted on 04 September 2017 - 05:37 PM
I will say this like we say on any other thread asking to add more OG maps: We can't add maps without the creator's permission.Posted on 04 September 2017 - 05:53 PM
This is like a really beautiful thread+100

The map part was just suggestions for badlion to add some new maps, the whole point of the thread wasn't to update the map pool

I understand that. I was just saying that we simply can't add maps though we want to, just because we need permission from the creator(s).

Hey Zaq, I definitely like what you wrote down on your thread but I thought I might try and add my own perspective on how it should be managed. I'm not sure how many of you know this, but my old IGN was darkrai202 and I was one of the most famed SG players. I played clan wars in all three major regions and set up a branch of one of the most respected and skilled clans (Phoenix) in all three regions at one point in another. I also played under Forgotten, who also can claim the title of one of the most respected, and best clans. With my reputation out of the way to give myself some credibility on the subject, here we go:Competitive SG, why?
'Survival Games' is one of the most famed gamemodes to ever grace competitive Minecraft. With zero doubt in my mind, Survival Games has a higher potential to be an e-sport type gamemode than anything else Badlion will try and push. I'll quickly gloss over some points that may be persuasive.
Viewership
The most recent Badlion tournament, CTF, peaked at ~150 viewers. For the infancy of competitive Minecraft, this is kinda cool, right? Well yeah, but is it enough to gain the notice of organisations looking to invest in MC? God no, 150 is an abysmal number if Badlion is looking to expand into e-sports. So, what's the solution?
…
Hey, remember that community that spawned countless YouTube channels with hundreds of thousands of subscribers? SG! If Badlion sucessfully hosts an SG tournament, gets popular SG YouTubers to advertise it (quick reminder, the majority of these youtubers all were in the clan scene at one point or another) and woah, you have a high viewership tournament, a large player-count and a gamemode which is the most suitable for competitive MC.
Player Count
Look at the popularity of this thread, people would die for an SG tournament, even preferably an SG league. US MCSG had an unpaid, stand-alone, community-run league which was home to ~40 clans at it's peak (clans having a minimum of 8 players to sign up, I believe.) EU's numbers were similar, and AU had ~15 clans. The player count was, and is still there. Imagine the incentive for even more players to sign up due to a large money prize! Also as a sidenote: If this goes as well as I'd expect it too, a one day tournament wouldn't suffice and do justice. A tournament spanning over a week, or a league which resets quarterly would be the most ideal.
Competitiveness of the Gamemode
SG requires more skill than OCN gamemodes, period. There's more mechanics to play with, a huge array of map pools to memorise and perfect. Top tier clans in MCSG such as Forgotten US, Phoenix AU, etc had perfected every aspect of the gamemode and were truly unstoppable. SG is such a fun gamemode to master and scrims were actually fun.
Competitive SG, how?
First of all, absolutely everything needs to be the same as it was on MCSG. No fun, wacky spin-offs or interesting gamemode changes. It just needs to be MCSG, use the same five map pool, have the servers set up the same, no differences. Supply drops can't be a thing. For normal SG? Sure, whatever, but not for clan battles.
Now that's established I'm going to go through what I think competitive SG should be.
Competitive SG should be a quarterly tournament, a re-occuring event which boasts a prize pool of $5000 divided among the top 3 teams. The tournament can be double-elimination and span over two weekends. Each tournament match is Bo5. Have players who know how to spec, and what to spec watch the matches (good commentary is also preferred!!). I honestly thought I'd have more to write for this part but I really don't, the Badlion tournament team is pretty great and knows how to work things. The only thing is that this event cannot be a one day thing, it needs to go for a weekend or two and allow every team to play multiple matches, not just some bo1 knockout thingo.
Or do a league like LCS, that could be cool too.

Thanks for the feedback, the SG community is so much more competitive than OCN was and if you want to let us set up more stuff such as a clan leaderboard I'll show you

Nice job twisz, let's hop on ts later and talk to some people ok? Well written and if we could just get a clan leaderboard going then I'm happy
