That comment put me off for a while, but Ive recently noticed that dev_revs, zicuri, blaszczak, arrowless, lft and ginie have each played a tournament whilst tourney staff.
This makes me want to apply again, but I'm worried that I might be forced to ref a tournament rather than be able to participate.
But then again I'm sure you must be pretty lenient if many of the staff have been aloud to play (including an admin)
I mean sometimes you will have to not play and help the tournment (the whole point of being tourny helper) and sometimes you will be able to play but i do think that if you planing to play any tournment you will need to let your manager to know about it first.

Thanks to everyone who applied to be a tournament staff! We just accepted our second wave of helpers in the last month, which meant we had a lot of people helping out today. That was a big part of why things ran so smoothly, and their help was really appreciated. If you still want to apply though, feel free to! Server Issues
We had a few problems with the network lagging around midday which caused some delays. Overall nothing too terrible happened and most of the delays were limited to 15 minutes or less. Thanks to Rigner for helping out with some command/chat lag problems during the tourney! The devs, as always, are working on making the network more stable, particularly when our player counts are high (on Saturdays).
BLC
We decided this tournament to make Badlion Client mandatory for every player, after last arena tourney when we had an issue with no screensharers being around in the semis. I personally think it went pretty well, the list of people who couldn't run it was fairly short. What we decided on for the policy this week was, for a player to be exempted from our BLC requirement, he/she had to submit a BLC Bug Report on the forums. This worked fairly well, and it may be how we choose to do this in the future. The bug reports help devs find and fix the most common issues, which will eventually lead to a better client experience for everyone.
We also plan on making the majority of our future tournaments BLC-required. We do however, recognize that around 10% of our playerbase uses Macs, so we will still host some future non-cash prize tournies that don't require BLC.
What's Next
This was the end of our Summer Series, which I think was a great success. Looking ahead, we have the Domination tournament and the Invitational coming up for the Diamond Series. We also are planning to host EU and SA arena tournaments very soon based on some feedback gathered by Community Managers. Additionally, we will be running the Season 14 Global tournament at some point. The tournament staff have discussed it, and we feel that running tournaments much more frequently is better for the competitive scene. We hope to run tournaments year-round as frequently as we have these past few months. What other tournaments do you guys want to see (and what regions)?

I know I got 2nd, I was on holiday during the 5v5 tourney which my clan won. Also, the badlion client is hella smooth, that was the first time I used it and I found the gameplay smooth. Yes, there's aesthetics that need improvements but the foundation of the client is actually amazing. Hope there's a another tourney soon :D possibly 3v3 or 5v5 build/sg? :P Thanks a lot!!

um i was talking about the 5v5 tournament in the diamond series lol. i was told that the winners of each of the tournaments get invited to the invitationals? I was asking if 2nd place also get invited?

Just to clarify the only tournaments which allow you to qualify for the Invitational are the Diamond League Qualifiers (CTF, CTW + Domination)
The other Arena Tournaments such as the Debuff and 5v5 Arena Tourney which were apart of the Summer Tournament Season are separate to the Diamond Series
The final chance to qualify for the Invitationals is in the Domination Tournament coming up soon
