Community Feedback: Tournaments

Today I would like to talk about one of the longest standing and most important features of Badlion, Tournaments. For the longest time Badlion was the place to come and compete to prove you are the best. We are working to bring back this feeling to the servers, and ArenaPvP S16 is going to be a huge step in that direction.

On this note, we would like to talk with the community as to how they feel tournaments on Badlion should be going forward? Should we only be focussing on 5v5? 1v1? 3v3? etc. Should we be working towards cash prize tournaments only? Or should we have more casual and regular tournaments?

Tell us what you think. This will help us shape the future of the tournament scene for Minecraft together.

5v5 is definitely more competitive than both 1v1 and 3v3. I think you should keep up with what uou've been doing with ESL.

More 1v1 tournament of kits that everyone plays, it doesnt need prizes it just for fun, and no only "competitive" kits it can have kits like skywars just for fun

Prize Tournaments:
The larger tournaments should all be 5v5 and consist of Competitive gamemodes
This include CTF, DOM, CTW and trying new gamemodes out like Bedwars and SG
They dont need to be $1000 all the time and could simply be $300, just to have some sort of insentive
In the future once there is a good lineup of competitive gamemodes another "Emerald Series" could occur
Hopefully there will be a greater pool of skilled teams and make the qualifiers more intense
Also trying out different styles of tournaments would be good eg. Swiss, Group Stages etc.

Teams System:
A "Teams" system should be added which is different from clans
This would only have 12 spots and would be used for an easier signing up system
There are a lot of DQs and the system should be like other servers where each member must sign in and accept that they will show up
This system would simply focus on the competitive aspects and would therefore differ from clans which are essentially large communities

Arena:
Arena tournaments really should only be 1v1 - 3v3 and be ran inbetween large 5v5 tournaments
5v5 isn't very competitive either or exciting to watch so should just be kept to 1v1 - 3v3
And also as they are smaller they shouldn't have prizes and just be regular occurring mini-tournaments

Advertising:
Badlion could do a better job with promotion of these events
Simple things such as more tweets, ingame announcements and more organised forums would help
Furthermore, using an official Badlion Twitch and getting cinematic video to hype them up would be cool and feel more esports like

I mean, what you're doing is great but the simple truth is that there are no content creators playing / supporting the whole thing and you also have to count that people simply don't play the server.

I'd suggest slowing down the tourneys, making them more like "rare special events" but with "mainstream" gamemodes (build 1v1/2v2, sg 5v5). With this I mean that to gain more interest they should be organizated properly a lot of time before to make sure everything runs perfectly and a big part of that is getting youtubers to play / stream these so that their fans are encouraged to join to win money / play against them / have a chance to have thousands of people watch them fighting. Doing this for a while would make sure that the community is always hyped and waits for them and that would encourage people to train, possibly with clans (clans 2.0 will help that a lot). After that gets "stable" you would be fine hosting other gamemodes and trying out new stuff imo

Weekly uhc tournaments where you would pay 1 dollar to participate.

So imagine 50 people participating.

50 people = 50 dollars

1st: 60% = 30 dollars
2nd: 25% = 12,5 dollars
3rd: 15% = 7,5 dollars

I find 1v1 tournaments aren't really competitive and aren't worth it.

5v5 competitive game modes is where the competitive scene of Minecraft should be at, because then it is not only individual skill and strategy, but also teamwork, when working with a team it is then possible to create strategic plays and movements, along with adding an extra skill to the scene of Minecraft, being teamwork, teamwork and team skill is in every competitive game out there, because it defines the teams skill.

I personally feel there should be some smaller cash prize tournaments for 5v5 say like: SG, CTF, CTW, Domination, etc. And then the larger tournaments 4 times a year, every season, stuff like the Diamond League sized tournaments but only for each season, and these mini tournaments say like once a month or something, are good practice for the large scale tournaments coming up. winter, spring, summer, autumn tournaments.

For the winter tournaments, make them consists of only the top teams in all the other 3 tournaments are able to attend and play, such as the top 5 teams of summer, spring and autumn. Of course having all the major tournaments livestreamed.

I think the only main issue with the tournaments going on so far is the lack of advertisement. When there is a tournament coming out soon, it should be pinned and posted on twitter, along with on the last 2 days make a new tweet saying there's only a few days left to sign up for the tournament. You need to help spread the word about these tournaments, by getting YouTubers involved as they are for sure the best source of advertisement, one final way would be to advertise the Tournament Discord more, there are loads of players in the Badlion Discord, but very few in the Tournament one.

Most tournaments should be 5v5s.
For 5v5s you should do build a lot as its the most popular kit by far. Also prize should be bigger for 5v5 build tourneys.
If your doing pot kits make it 2v2s.
If you do kits like iron and archer, way less people will play the tourney so I would only do casual tournaments with small prizes when doing those types of kits.

Add an automated tourney gamemode on arena (also add this to parties). When winning one of these tourneys you should get a cosmetic case or something like that.

Since I know this is a weird issue but find a way to allow MAC users to play. I myself have a mac and it's fairly annoying with bootcamp. This is not asking to make BLC mac compatible but just find a process that'll prove mac users. Also there should be some requirements, like no bans within the last year, clean mutes for the past year, etc. Then if people pass that, staff could ss them day of a tournament, force them to use a different client (I use Cosmic), and if they decide to cheat have a rule to obviously dq the team but also perm ban or ip ban if necessary.

I think you should allow mac users to use the client not only because its unfair that only Windows users can run it, but because there are also a lot of players using MACs so Windows users have a big advantage especially because Prize pool tourneys you have to use BAC and they cant even Run it.
