I found a patch to this issue. Search of your Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security. Go to your inbound rules and locate "Java(TM) Platform SE Binary". For me there was 2 which didn't match the inbound rules. I clicked on both of them and clicked disable rule. Essentially Java Binary was disabled because it did not match the rules of our firewalls. That worked for me, and hopefully for anyone else as well.Posted on 17 April 2020 - 03:46 PM

Are you trying to launch 1.16? If yes, it's available for Insiders at the moment. That's why it shows that error.
If you are trying to launch any other Minecraft version, make sure your firewall and antivirus are not blocking Badlion Client. Make sure to disable VPNs (if you use any).
• You can either disable your antivirus or whitelist Badlion Client if it has an option to do that. I don't know which antivirus software you are using, that why you might need to use Google to find more information about how to disable it or how to whitelist programs.
• If you want to disable Windows Defender firewall, do the following: Open Windows Control Panel. Click on "System and Security", then click on "Windows Defender Firewall". A new menu will pop up and on the left side there should be a button called "Turn Windows Defender firewall on or off". Select the option: "Turn off Windows Defender Firewall (Not recommended)" and click on "Ok" to save the settings.
After that, restart the Badlion Client launcher and see if it works.

What java version are you using? My brother today had this issue and it turns out he was either using Java 32 bit, or he used a old version.[Edit] I did a bit of research and does have to do with the Java version or its for the wrong operating system. and it should NOT have to do with Badlion client, Windows Defender would block Badlion when it gets launched, not when you press to play button, and anyways I think checking for Jars is a Javaw thing, but I am not sure about that.

Im on mac… Is there any fix? it just keeps bouncing as though it is opening and then doesn't open for a good 1 minute. Then it opens and when I press play it says "Error Checking for jar updates"

@xLovex What about your firewall? Did you disable it?
Also, try ending the process in the task manager.
If that doesn't help, submit a bug report by clicking on "Submit Bug Report" at the bottom of the launcher. It will send us your logs.
