Rods have never worked as a "weapon" in vanilla and snapshots are obviously vanilla. It's the third party server program which enables rod knockback.Posted on 30 July 2015 - 10:40 AM

If you download the official server software supplied by Mojang, you can't rod other players, only mobs. Instead, if you download for example a bukkit server and run it, you can rod others even without installing any plugins. Same with snowballs, eggs and ender pearls. At least that's how it was the last time I checked.

You can't swing with both swords in duel wielding. Mojang confirmed this
