Maybe this is ignorant of me, but I feel like this isn't really an issue of sexism. People in chat are assholes in general. People call each other bitches, pussies, and faggots in chat. The only difference is that you have girl in your name, so people will use different insults; instead of calling you a faggot, they'll ask if you're on your period. I don't think sexism is a huge problem, people are just assholes. I don't think people should get harsher punishments when gender gets involved, the only time gender should matter is when a punishment can be considered sexual harassment (and even then, sexual harassment isn't exclusively guys harassing girls).Posted on 17 August 2015 - 08:50 PM

It is quite ignorant of you, because every single one of those harsh terms shouldn't be used. Sexism is a huge problem, all around the world. So is racism, homophobia, etc. Sexism is a problem both ways (meaning girls harrassing guys, and guys harrassing girls). Just saying that "people are assholes" does not justify anything. It's wrong, and something should be done to make it right. It might be impossible, but the least we can do is try, right? Any word/phrase/action used to disrespect anyone is wrong.

I think what he means to say is that sexism is the medium through which people have tried to harass you, personally. The problem, however, is not that people are sexist in particular, but that people are assholes. The problem is that too many people on the server have a huge power complex, I would say. If you bring them down in game by beating them, they want to bring you down as well - insulting, trash talking, and being a dick are good ways, to them, to try this. I don't think he's trying to belittle the pernicious nature of sexism, I think he's just noting that this is an alternate form of a larger trend which we should combat, perhaps, at the root.

Oh alright I understand. I just think this is an issue of sexism, but I can understand that people are just trying to "get even" in a sense if I beat them, and they wanted to bring me down by hitting somewhere sensitive. In my case, it's by being sexist since I'm a girl. It isn't right at all, but I guess it's how people think.
The larger trend is probably "disrespect to bring people down", if you understand what I'm saying. By being beaten, someone will try to "get even" by attacking with slurs or harsh words. In some cases, it's homophobia, in others, it's racism, etc. This larger trend is what needs to be combatted.
(I might be completely wrong/interpreted what you said wrong, so sorry if I did)

I really haven't read everyone's replies because there is so many and many go into longer conversations but here is my view on it:The community on a whole can be very immature, salty and rude. When acting in this manor they use any which way possible to insult their opponents regardless of whether there is a boy or girl on the other end. I find many people (when insulting girls) result to sexist comments such as "are you on your period?" etc, they don't do this thinking *Ooo i'll be sexist* I believe they do it with the intention of causing insult. Lets be honest, they know by making comments like that they'll get a reaction out of the girl. On the other hand boys when insulting other boys may use comments that'd purposely aggravate the boy.
I personally don't find comments made on the server are by extremely bad people or by people who are sexist IRL, I just see kids/teenagers using any way possible to get an reaction out of the person they're intentionally trying to annoy.
I do come across some people (rarely) who are clearly rude and sexist who'll say "Get the fuck back in the kitchen you dumb bitch", which at that point in time I will react.
