Discussion: Badlion Rule 29
Hey, some of you might know me as a host, some of you might not. I wanted to open a discussion about badlion rule 29. The rule states

"Direct association with an IP banned/blacklisted player may lead to you getting banned. Examples include, but not limited to: Publicly advertising or promoting in benefit of the banned player, assisting banned player in harming Badlion or its community in any way, etc. The final decision/enforcement of this rule is left at only the Owners' decision."

I recently got demoted for this reason. Being associated with IP banned players. I did not promote in benefit of the banned player, I didn't assist them in arming badlion in any way. I got demoted by simply talking to them. I understand the rule state that final action is left at only the owner's decision, but that means there are no clear limits to the rule. I got demoted for simply being in teamspeak a couple of times with IP banned players. They were trying to tell me who I could be friends with and who I couldn't be
When I asked for an in-detail reason as for why I was demoted I was told that I was damaging the image of badlion. While not directly harming the server I was told that me simply being in teamspeak with them could give the staff a bad reputation and people could suspect me of abusing for them. I said I never actually did anything but apparently the suspicion was enough.

In my opinion this rule is definitely not specific enough and can really seem way too harsh. I'd like to know what other people think of it and people's reasoning behind it. This rule is basically a loophole where admins can punish players even slightly linked to ip banned players as they wish.
I understand admins might not want IP banned players to continue harming their server, but in my opinion this is too harsh. I'd like to know what everybody thinks about this rule and its potential applications. This isn't solely about my demotion, I'm just promoting a general discussion on the forums which as far as I know is allowed. This isn't an insult or a complain post about the badlion administration, just a clarification and discussion thread. Please don't take it as otherwise.

Please just leave,

Meg, you should know the rules. Sorry about what happened but that's just the way it goes.

This is just a general discussion about the rule. That's off topic. The rule in itself is not clear and subject to different interpretation

I have to agree with RealMeg, I don't see any difference to the reputation/image to the server about her talking to IP banned players. Very few people will know that those players are IP Banned so it can't effect the server's image in anyway shape or form. I do think Meg should be given a proper legitimate reason why she was demoted, because from what i have personally heard and seen, Meg was a great UHC Mod, heck one of the best. And shouldn't lose her rank for talking to IP banned players when all she did was talk to them it wasn't like she was helping them get unbanned themselves.

In my opinion a full demotion was a bit harsh maybe a warning would have been better so she can learn from it and move on, she deserves her rank back as her performance as staff was outstanding and a lot of my friends will agree with my reasons above.

Best of luck Meg,

It's a complete BS rule, they pick what servers you play on and who your friends are.

There are 2 valid sides to the argument and I can see why the administration demote staff members because of this.

However, who will be judging Badlion's image because a staff member is talking to an ip banned player? To be honest, I highly doubt players will judge the server on this. Plus, probably half the players don't even know this rule exists and even know the player is ip banned. Therefore, I don't see too much harm done by it.
So, if I was to the administration one question about this is topic it would be:

Which people will judge your server because a staff member is talking to an ip banned player? If I could get an answer, it should clear the situation up further.

However, I do have a compromise that I'd like to put forward. If a staff member is caught talking to an ip banned player in a public ts like Badlion ts or publicly on twitter they should be instantly demoted. However, if they talk privately, on private ts or Twitter dms etc. they shouldn't be demoted.

That's my opinion on the matter. Like Meg said, I don't hate any of the administration because of this rule. However, would just like some more clarity on the matter.

Thank you for your time

I'm sure it doesn't matter atm what ts it was on etc. However, I believe this comprise should be implemented because a regular member wouldn't know about it and wouldn't have a bad image of you or the staff team.

This was what Cavasi said to someone when they said that they couldn't talk their friends if they were ipbanned.

I dont get it, if you didnt want to go through all this dont speak to them. I see what you mean but quite honestly its either you talk with a cheater or you dont and keep your staff rank. You arent getting banned, its just you need to keep a good reputation for badlion, because as staff you represent it

Personally I believe that in your own spare time you should be able to do whatever the fuck you want, as long as you're not harming Badlion. Being in a private TS with IP banned players strikes me as fair, as long as 1) you're not on Badlion at the time, and 2) no bad actions can be traced to you. I think this is too harsh a punishment and should be subject to further administrator discussion. @Archybot

I don't see how this relates to her situation. As said she did not assist anybody break any rules. With this logic what she did is perfectly fine
