Discussion: Badlion Rule 29
I think this rule is stupid because they basically demoted for having friends, it's what you do outside your badlion staff life? they have no right to interfere into that.

I agree. Before i was staff i had false friends there for my extra diamonds, whitelists and host perks. But on the staff team i made a ton of friends who i realized were actually real and didnt abandon me when I got demoted.

Getting new friends doesn't justify being forced to give up your old ones.

You aren't being forced to give up your old ones xD

If you don't want to give them up, leave staff, easy.

Being staff means sacrificing little bits some certain things, if you aren't ok to do that, then don't be staff.

We (Badlion) will do what is in our best interest.

The staff (players) will do what is in their best interest.

If they do not align then we do not work together.

Pretty straight forward.

So if your best friend you have known for a long time is ip banned on badlion , if you want to keep your cool flashy staff tag u would have to ditch your friend , fuck no i would just quit

That's pretty stupid. Like if they're your friends you should be able to talk to them lol. Who cares if they're ip banned on a server

You seem to left out the part you were in a TS room with Pinxx and an IP banned player while they were teaming together in a Badlion UHC and didn't mention it to us, along with all the other IP banned player friends you have.

You also didn't seem to have a problem with this rule when you reported people you didn't like breaking it. You only have a problem with it because you got punished for it.

Lmfao, you don't have to "ditch" very many friends at all, in fact you make 30x more and better friendships from being staff, you make it sound like everyone is only friends with ip banned players, why make it sound alot worse than it is?

I don't see why you'd want to be friends with people who will get you in trouble, both Irl and in game Eg:
Your friend steals shit, as soon as you know and don't report it, you become an accessory to the crime.

pretty much the same concept, this server is run like the business it is, if people aren't helping the business grow, why keep them around, they become liabilites, it's not worth it, sometimes it's not fair, but honey life ain't fucking fair

So what your trying to say is just because your staff on a game, quit talking to your friends who cheat but you've known them for ages and go make new friends? Which is basically minecraft > friends? Sad as fuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

This is completely different.
As a staff its your job to report something whether you like what you see or hear, or not.

Well look af that, she has her rank back! Awkward isn't it.
Also Archy shouldn't whatever people report remain private and not made public on a forum post?

You see, the difference is that staff members should be staying away from ip banned players, if you want to continue talking to them, either leave or be demoted, you haven't broken the rule to the point of being banned, but you were associating with them, even if it was off badlion.

For another example, let's say that a normal player hacked on another server and got banned, then can still play here ( so long as they don't hack) but as a staff member, if you are to be banned on a different server while being staff on badlion, there is a huge chance that you'll be demoted, because you hold a part of the servers reputation where ever you go in the mc community, you are known for being badlion staff and it makes badlion look bad if you are being banned on other servers for cheating.

That's the way I see it anyway.

Well you guys are not just gonna tell a friend to stop talking to be or be demoted SOME PEOPLE HAVE TALKED TO THE STAFF FOR A LONG TIME AND THEN GUESS WHAT they are "not allowed to talk to you" You can't do that and. So if i get IP banned i am not allowed to talk to a friend i have had for 4 months. That would not only piss me off, but that would also piss my friend off. You can't tell ANYONE not ANYONE who to be friends, and who not to be friends with.

That is different. If i was ip banned i would want to talk to my friend, but i would know if i ever logged on badlion to evade he would have to report me. Please provide all information if you are trying to make a report, cause without it you are pretty much lying.

You guys seem to completely disregard the purpose of staff members.

As MasterGberry said, if the interests of both the server and the staff member conflict, then that staff member will be demoted.
What does that mean? Well, it means that they're relieved of their position as a volunteer.
As a staff member of the Badlion Network, you're expected to showcase exemplary behavior consistently. When staff members are associating themselves with players who purposely cheat and violate the rules of our server, not only does it send a terrible message, but it reflects poorly on Badlion too. The staff member completely dismisses any apprehension and disregards the impact of their image and influence.

Maybe a better question you should be asking is how great of a friend that is who is willing to compromise your position in order to cheat on the network.

Yes. If a staff member chooses to publicly associate themselves with groups cheaters and those who evade their punishments to persist in their commitment of violating our rules, we certainly will demote that staff member.

This is completely disregarding everything besides for the suggestion that they're friends.
Staff members are allowed to have friends. They are people.
However, as stated above, they will be demoted if they choose to associate themselves with blacklisted players.
We are not banning them. We are not slandering their name.
We're simply relieving them from a position of authority.

I don't see how this even got this far. It's not a question of having friends, it's a question of an influential authority associating themselves with blacklisted players. If they are found guilty in that regard, they will be demoted.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned, as I've only skimmed the thread, but:

The biggest problem I see with this is how it can be manipulated. If Badlion staff gets demoted or a player gets banned for being associated with blacklisted players on non-Badlion hosted services, like Skype, Steam, or a private TS, then couldn't banned players abuse this to get players they don't like in trouble? For instance, poking a staff member to help them on an alt before the staff member is keen on the alt, asking them to come on their private TS, taking screenshots/recording audio after the fact, etc. After all, who's the one that reports these cases? How do you know that a staff member on another private TS really is there commonly, or if it were a one off case? (I know staff may be well trained to deal with this, but it's merely an example case. Is it not the job of staff to attempt to help players, meaning they should be easily contactable, or am I misunderstanding the purpose of staff members?) This is especially true of completely legit players who aren't on staff and aren't responsible for keeping up with who's a trouble maker and knowing what TS's are good or bad to go on. What if they really didn't know and weren't causing trouble? Just because someone is a hacker, alt accounter, etc., doesn't mean everyone he talked to knew it, even if those people he talked to were awfully toxic or otherwise.

This also leads to some strange cases where there may be a private TS full of legit players that one banned played may still frequent. Is it the responsibility of the TS owner to make sure he can't come back? What if I haven't another way to communicate with my legit friends on a TS, or what if that player doesn't care about Badlion anymore and doesn't cause trouble, etc? I don't ask these questions because I don't think the situation couldn't be handled: Certainly, exceptions can be made, or the player can just put up with it, but there will always be the "but why does HE get to do that but I get banned for it?" cases if word gets out. (A single screenshot of the TS getting out showing a staff member and a banned player case that was acceptable, for instance.)

Ambiguous rules like this are great for weeding out special cases…until it's misinterpreted and thought unfair for one reason or another by a majority of the vocal community. I completely understand what is trying to be accomplished, but honestly, I feel as if removal from staff, in the cases of staff members, will only bring more attention to these connections between blacklisted players, for reasons such as this thread being created. I don't know about others who are more involved, but I've never heard anyone bash a server or it's staff for such silly things unless the case was very clearly a problem, for instance, a member of staff unbanning a friend for no reason, and I can't imagine most players really care much as a result, only the vocal minority may even hear about such cases before they are dealt with.
The very fact that the staff that would be removed as a result of this also happen to be the ones with close connections to "troublemakers" only escalates the possibility of these cases going public. This is only healthy until enough unique cases being handled differently make the general player feel uncertain about the decision making of the upper staff, for perhaps completed unjustified reasoning.

Perhaps I sound as if I'm dramatizing the possible situations here, but I've seen it all before, several times. I, personally, can not recall a case of ambiguous rules such as these working out. Not that it can't, but the making of this thread doesn't help that case. In my personal, non-statistical opinion, either the rule needs to be more clear-cut, or it shouldn't be there.

First off, I'd like to thank you for handling this professionally and bringing actual concerns to my attention.
Rule 29 reads as:

Rule 29 wrote

Direct association with an IP banned/blacklisted player may lead to you getting banned. Examples include, but not limited to: Publicly advertising or promoting in benefit of the banned player, assisting banned player in harming Badlion or its community in any way, etc. The final decision/enforcement of this rule is left at only the Owners' decision.

We're not trying limiting your sociability by any count. This rule was implemented because much more extreme cases were occurring, such as the examples provided in the rule itself.
We will not take the time to investigate random players for information on their social connections with a blacklisted player. We have much more important things to do. I've rarely seen players actually banned for this rule. Most players should know better than to publicly advertise or promote in benefit of a blacklisted player.
More so, this is a rule that I have found has impacted our staff team. In the case of this thread, the staff member was founded associating themselves with a blacklisted member inside a private teamspeak channel in our public teamspeak, the Badlion Teamspeak. I was not involved in the punishment, so I'm not aware of any additional details to what I've stated above.

I sure hope that the demoting of a staff member for will bring more attention to the rule.
As I've said before, I seldom see any cases where players are caught in the crossfire of the implementation of rule 29. There have been a few punished for it, but it was by no means an accidental or framed encounter.
Staff members will be demoted as they are role models in our small community. They are supposed to show exemplary behavior. I feel that it would be tautological to remind anybody that staff members are subject to, and must follow the same rules as players, as they are the positions that enforce them.

To sum this up: The rule is rarely ever used as a means to punish players, usually only in extreme cases where the player's guilt is undoubted, and it is generally left to the investigating of the Administrators. Staff members are demoted for DIRECT association because they are expected to follow the rules that they themselves enforce.

I'm sorry if this isn't the response you're looking for. I can give you a more detailed response when I get home later.

If you're pledging to moderate the server in any way and your close friend is a known cheater, then being staff isn't for you.

Edit: This is also talking to this cheater and helping them ip ban evade, if it's letting them play your UHC, etc.
