Suggestion on UHC Whitelist
Last edited on 18 February 2016 - 02:19 PM by jacobryde
Hi Everyone,No one knows me here because I've never played on this network until yesterday. And in the 2 UHCs I've tried to join, I haven't had the fortune of being whitelisted. My suggestion's simple.
Current Problem:
- 100s of players constantly spamming
- Many of the players have no idea how to join, they just see others doing './whitelist [name]' and they start copying
- There's no good explanation of how a game starts when you join the network. You just sit there until people start spamming then you join them and hope for the best.
Basic Solution(s):
1. Force people to signup on Forum (this removes lots of lazy people/spammers) before they can play
OR
2. Force people to signup on Forum and make the signup for UHC be through the forums (e.g. you enter your name and you get whitelisted, up to 2 days in advance)(and you create teams in advance)
AND (notice the AND, not the OR. This should be included either way)
3. Create a tutorial that runs-down how a UHC works. It should include pre-game (how to get in the game…forums/tutorial)), duration of game and what happens when you die.
Changes in Lobby:
- Create a competent filter. For example if someone's sentence includes 'Whitelist' 3 times in 15 seconds, mute them for 30 and display 'Do not ask for whitelist'. [This is an example]
- Create easy and understandable visuals allowing people to know how to join a game. For example, when I join the Server it should say (this can be disabled if you're experienced):
'Hi jacobryde!' … 'To play UHC you need to take the tutorial (/tutorial) and signup on the forums! (/register [email] )'
Why I think this will work:
- Currently the main problem is the method of joining a UHC. The best method is clearly by donating, however it seems the next best is by spamming. The way to stop this is either stop spamming, make a better way of joining a UHC than spamming, or by requiring people to do something before joining (e.g. signup for forums/tutorial).
Should you listen to me? Ehhh, I've been on the server for a total of 45 minutes probably but I'm already sufficiently annoyed by the spam and lack of systematic order to even bother trying to play.
Hopefully, if you like this, I'm doing you all a favour.

Yes, I know. However thus far I don't believe the suggestions on that thread were any good. Mainly a basic form of a queue which is incorporated in my suggestion anyway.
I wanted to make a new thread because I wanted more attention on it. Also, if you're going to reply please include something that adds to the current thread, such as your review of my idea or any suggestions on changing it.

The registering before you can join a UHC might be good but I'd vote no on the 2 day advance on whitelisting, partially because a lot of hosts don't even plan they're games that far ahead.Posted on 18 February 2016 - 04:09 PM

It doesn't need to be a 2 day time period. I merely meant it would be good to be able to sign up in advance, thereby reducing the number of people sitting on the server in hoped of getting a spot. If I knew that I had a spot saved I'd get on just a few minutes in advance.

But here's the thing, it's inconvenient for people to sign up on the website, and it's an extra step most people would rather skip, as only about 1/10 of the playerbase has a forum account, and many do just for appeals. As for your thread, I don't want to come off as rude, but you could've just added your response to his thread. Since its by Gberry it generates a lot of attention anyways, but this works too. My 2 cents
