I mean… with the way 1.9 is made I don't think it's ever going to MORE competitive than 1.7 but you guys can try.

Feel free to give you reasoning.

The largest thing that people consider a "skill" in minecraft is how fast you click. Newsflash, no competitive game is based on how fast you can click a mouse. Every competitive game is based on reaction time and accurately clicking your mouse/keyboard. Not how many times a second you can do it.

So what else is there? Block hitting? You have a shield now instead.

Think that's all you are gonna come back with, but please feel free to prove me wrong.

Well, in 1.7, I think the skill gap is MUCH higher. The main things that make the skill gap higher are strafing, clicking, aim. In 1.9, the hit cooldown essentially destroys the concept of clicking fast, aiming wouldn't matter because you have somewhere around a second to guess where the person is, when it used to be almost instantly and very reaction based. Also, strafing is ALMOST useless since combos don't really matter (because hit cooldown basically defeats the purpose of combo'ing someone). Basically, 1.9 will have a much lower skill gap, and it will be a lot of trading hits mostly. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that 1.9 isn't completely competitive. I'm just saying that some things that 1.7 did have would make it more competitive than 1.9 in my opinion. Now, if you take away the hit cooldown from 1.9, I'd definitely say it'd be a LOT more competitive in general, because I have played 1.8 and melee is actually pretty good with it, and from my knowledge, 1.8 and 1.9 melee is basically the same. I HAVE heard that 1.9 has better hit detection which is pretty exciting. My main problem with 1.9 other than the hit cooldown is how buggy the actual version is. I feel as if they released it when it wasn't fully finished/tested. Apparently vertical kb is messed up while you're in the air, bows are very buggy as well, arrows are very different with the way they move now, mobs are a bit OP. Also, with shields you literally take almost no knockback or damage unless hit from behind, which is very OP. Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that if you could fix the bugs and change some stuff up to make it perfect, 1.9 could be pretty competitive, but I don't think it will be as competitive, because 1.7 has a higher skill gap in my opinion. Plus, the hit cooldown is probably what most people hate about 1.9. Anyways, yeah, sorry for going all over the place with this, just a lot of thoughts I had. I probably forgot something but here you go.

There will be an option to force your option choice only right now, but cross server play would only be enabled if you've been waiting an extended amount of time anyways. We still haven't decided the full details of the thing, and might even remove cross server stuff for the time being. Setting it up though would allow us to have a lot of proxies and such in multiple locations (such as 4-5 NA, a couple EU, etc) and always have fair ping fights in the future (the matchmaker would take both locations and put you on a server where you would have even ping).

So does this mean that you can pare EU people up againts NA people and the EU guy will get the same ping as he does to EU and then NA guy gets the same ping he gets to? Or did I missunderstand all of this? If you could make this that would be fucking amazing but did I understand it right?

Hey everyone. So today I was hoping to announce that season 12 would be out this weekend, but I feel that this would be a mistake. Our growing development team has been very hard at work trying to convert our code base to be cross 1.7 and 1.9 compatible, and to be honest we have had to waste a lot of time for this double version support (which to my knowledge we are the only server at the moment properly supporting vanilla 1.7 and vanilla 1.9?). It's been very complicated and we haven't even had time to actually play around with 1.9 yet for balance testing and such. As a result we will not be releasing season 12 this weekend.

Season 12 Release Date

That all being said the final release date for season 12 and 1.9 support will be March 19th at 3:00 AM EST (12:00 AM PST, 8 AM GMT).

We have already begun to start deploying our 1.9 compatible BungeeCord version (you cannot join with 1.9 yet though [no 1.9 servers setup]). This is in preparation for the Season 12 launch. I would also like to share the patch notes for season 12 below:

Season 12 Patch Notes

- Added 1.9 Compatible ArenaPvP servers
- BuildUHC Iron Ranked Kit Added
- Removing events and splitting them off into separate servers slowly
- Fixed Pot Lag

That's about it folks! Season 12 is going to be the smallest upgrade to Badlion ArenaPvP ever! We think it's perfect the way it is, so why should we break it? Just kidding guys. The patch notes are actually that short, but there is a reason why.

Season 13 Plans

We will be ending support for our current ArenaPvP plugin as it currently is. We are going to be rewriting a lot of the plugin for ArenaPvP 5.0 (season 13 release). The new and largest feature of season 13 is going to be:

- Completely reworked Matchmaking including multiple region matchmaking

Have you ever played a game like StarCraft? League of Legends? Counter Strike? The way the matchmaking systems work is they take a pool of thousands of players and try to pair them together based on preferences (in our case ladder), ratings, and regions. We are going to be building a completely new matchmaking system that is going to link all of the ArenaPvP servers together. Right now you have to join NA 1, NA 2, EU 1, EU 2, AU 1, …. etc and can only play with the people on that server. Well what happens if you want to play a ladder that no one on your server is currently playing? You are screwed.

This new matchmaking system will be similar to Hypixel's Skywars system if you have played it. You will join an "ArenaPvP Lobby" server and be able to spectate players/friends as you can now. You will also be able to create parties and queue up for ladders as you do now. When a match is found your team will be moved onto an "ArenaPvP Arena" server and will be given your kit etc. The fight begins then like normal. At the end of the match when you finish your team is teleported back to the "ArenaPvP Lobby". There will be multiple copies of the "ArenaPvP Lobby" and "ArenaPvP Arena" servers. In addition to all of these new systems the "reboot every 6 hrs" will become a thing of the past. Reboots will happen in the background and you as the user will never know any different. No more "You cannot queue up for ranked because the server is going to reboot soon".

The amount of work for season 13 is going to be a lot, which is why we have already started on it and skipped season 12 pretty much completely. We are having to write a lot of tools that we are going to use across our network for other game modes in the long run such as cross-region matchmaker. It's going to take us some time, but I am confident our team can pull it off.

Once season 13 is ready to go we will end season 12 immediately the following weekend and launch this new ArenaPvP 5.0 system for public play.

I hope everyone is as excited for the season 13 stuff as I am. Season 12 will hopefully not be too long of a season, but regardless we hope you have fun with it anyways :) Biggest thing for season 12 is to be able to try 1.9 PvP out in a practice environment as we slowly work to balance it out.
@MasterGberry Will AU/EU players be compatible to play with NA Players? That would be so laggy and messed up

This man understands.

As far as the Bow based ladders this is what our community is heavily based upon now. We are catering to our community. The other communities are not as popular here at the moment or have died out.

There's 5 bow ladders 4 sword ladders (5 next season cause of Iron build ) and 5 pot , so overall a mix for a variety of players . Not all players are all melee lovers unlike you

That's literally impossible at this stage in computing technology lol.
You 'ping' or 'latency' is how fast your client can send a packet to the server and get a response, so by sending a packet (small amount of data) along a wire, it will obviously take longer to get from A-B if the distance is say, 30 miles. If you are going from A-C and the distance is 60 miles, the latency will be twice as high (in theory).

If you didn't know already, the internet is literally just a wire that goes all around the world (in simple terms) and computers hook up to that so they can send/receive data somewhat fast.

You are asking that if a person from NA is versing a person from EU, will they both have the same ping as if they were to be connected to their 'local' server (same region). This is physically impossible, as the data is having to travel thousands of miles to get where it wants to go, then come back, instead of going 100 miles or whatever to the host.

The way it works (from what i've read from the posts in this thread) is that we will essentially have a lot of servers around the world, and it will find the best server to match you with your opponent so that you both get somewhat even latency to the server, therefor making the fight fair. It of course won't be as good as connecting to your local one, as you can never get the same latency to EU as NA if you live in NA, it's just not possible with technology as of now (who knows what the future holds, but it will be a damn long time before data can travel so fast that you can't tell the difference).

It could be made even by having it hosted in NA, and holding up the NA player's packets for some milliseconds, allowing the EU player to essentially 'catch-up' giving them both 'bad' latency.

Anyways, that's just a brief intro into the internet and latency and stuff :P
