Archer needs to be the kit encouraging long distance fights, because UHC and Iron already tend to make players have close range fights, so keeping the arrow damage distance based is essential, same for punch. Also I remember when you guys tried to put speed 1 for a season, there was no particular reason and noone really enjoyed it. Again, Archer is currently the only bow based gamemode that offers speed 2, so it encourages strafing more than just shotcamping.Posted on 08 December 2016 - 06:03 PM

@Archybot @HalfCreeperMake no mistake, the suggestions I made were to facilitate long range bow. Iron envelopes short range combat, UHC (with infinity) takes the role of mid range, and thus naturally Archer should be a long-ranged based kit. The pearls and /especially/ bow boosting make it harder to force long range. You guys seem to understand this. But I think you're missing exactly what distance-based damage does to the playstyle of the kit.
In Morsinius' theory, distance-based damage was designed to reward those better at long range and punish players who tried to force short range. He took it off of his dislike for the 3-hit variation for archer ladder at any distance. But the problem with distance-based damage is that it doesn't just punish somebody who's trying to force short range by reducing his damage output, it's rewarding him equally or even moreso by cutting his opponent's attacks. When he forces short range, it's not like he's at any disadvantage. He still has every advantage he would have had in natural bow, except the fights just take longer. The guy bad at short range still loses - and because the bows have punch, he gets tossed into a wall with nowhere to back up.
People bad at long range will always try to force closer ranges, because long range by nature takes a long time. The fights become dodge battles where everything is long and drawn out, and they almost always turn into shorter range fights. But if one player wants to force long range, we should facilitate his playstyle in Archer kit, because that's what the kit is supposedly designed to test - long range bow skill. The way to do that is not to make it easy for players to get away to force long range, but rather encourage them to make the approach for the other player dangerous. If the other player is still able to force short range, that's fine, but he should be required to be very good at closing that gap to be able to use his short range ability, because in a sense, that skill of closing the gap is still a long-range bow skill.
Also, punch can work, but the maps have to all be bigger, and you'll have to make it so you cannot hit yourself with an arrow.

I personally wouldn't care if the kit got changed or if it didn't, although I do like how kohi archer was.Also, how about you guys add infinity back to the UHC kit next season :)

Should remove the bow of Iron and uhc because they do nothing more than bowspamming and well put in iron only the full iron with the sword and in the diamond the same
